Homemade Shout Stain Remover Just 4 Ingredients

This homemade Shout Stain Remover takes just minutes to make and the savings are BIG.

The best part, it works maybe better than the name-brand stain remover.

I have been using this simple, easy, cheap Homemade Shout Stain Remover since I can’t remember when and now with the Shout shortage, it’s keeping my laundry pristine.

This stain remover works on practically every stain imaginable (even tough ones) like grass, grease stains, food, even blood stains!

Plus, it contains only 4 ingredients that I keep on hand.

As the mom to many, I’ve spent a fortune on laundry supplies.

I always pre-treat our clothes with stain remover.

As the cost has increased, now nearly $5 per bottle, I decided to take matters into my own hands.

I don’t want our budget to keep us from looking clean and put together.

As part of my “be more budget-friendly” resolution, I’ve reduced costs in the laundry room with homemade laundry detergent, DIY Fabric Softener, Homemade Dryer Sheets, and now DIY Homemade Shout Stain Remover!

It’s easy and costs a fraction of what I was spending buying the name brand; plus it offers better results!

We are talking about the cost of about 15 cents per 30 ounces!

Pricing may have changed since this post was written in 2014–we still use it and it still costs less than a dollar per bottle.

That’s right, 15 cents to make a full bottle of homemade stain remover.

It’s a super easy laundry hack!

I love that this stain remover safely removes stains on both white and colored clothing.

To Use:

Saturate the stain with the homemade stain remover.

For best results, treat the stain as quickly as possible.

It will always work better if you rub the fabric together before washing.

After waiting for about five minutes, machine wash the stained garment as you normally would.

Most of the time, I treat the stain as soon as I see it (even on my kids) and then just toss the garment in the laundry hamper.

It sits there until washday.

Always launder an item of clothing according to the instructions on the garment label.

If it rests between loads of laundry, it may separate.

Not to worry, give it a quick shake and you’re set!

Just to show you how well this works.

This is my daughter’s white shirt.

It was a brand new, birthday shirt.

We went to the Ballantyne Hotel to celebrate her turning ten. Grandma joined us.

Grandma wrapped a bottle of red wine in the white birthday shirt for the travel home.

When we arrived home, the wine bottle had broken and red wine covered everything.

My daughter was devastated because her new, favorite, birthday shirt was ruined.

I made a batch of Homemade Shout and let the shirt soak in it overnight.

Then I washed the shirt per the tag instructions.

Even I was amazed at how incredible the Homemade Shout worked. There was absolutely NO sign of Red Wine.

When my daughter saw the white shirt in her laundry pile she thanked me for getting her a “new shirt because the one she got for her birthday was stained by wine!”

See for yourself.

Important Note:

Do not use this on anything that will be washed with chlorine bleach due to ammonia!

I recommend Original BLUE Dawn for the best results.

I’ve tried other dish soaps, including varieties of Dawn and I always go back to ‘Ol Original Blue.

By the way, when was the last time you thought to clean your washing machine?

If you’re new to laundry, here is my routine:

  1. Treat the stains. As soon as you see a stain, treat it with this homemade Shout stain remover. Let it sit for at least 5 minutes.
  2. Sort the Laundry. I sort my laundry by bright colors, whites, towels and sheets, and jeans.
  3. Wash the clothes. I use homemade laundry detergent.
  4. Dry. Depending on the clothing, I either line dry or dry them in my dryer. The majority of our clothes are line-dried.It is gentler on your clothes and saves on electricity. Win-win!
