We received a party kit and inspiration in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own.
We love movies and when it comes to one with Melissa McCarthy, I’m excited. I had been watching the trailer for SPY and laughing out loud. We celebrated over Labor Day weekend the release of SPY to Digital HD by hosting a SPY viewing party. It was so much fun.
It’s available to own on DVD and Blu-Ray on September 29th and you’re going to want to bring it home. It would make a great date night movie, watch alone and laugh-out-loud movie. It’s filled with action, laughs and fun!
While I didn’t like this movie as much as I love Identity Thief, it’s right up there. It’s silly and funny. I loved the James Bond spoof introduction of the movie.
The characters are fun. They are extremely flawed and yet stand on their own in the film, but together, they are brilliant.
Susan Cooper (Melissa McCarthy) and her fellow CIA operative Rick Ford (Jason Statham) pose as a “happy” couple as they go deep undercover to stop an arms dealer.
Melissa McCarthy plays Susan Cooper and really brings this character to life with the lack of confidence and low self-esteem, yet very intelligent. She’s a believable character because so many women allow others to set their limit. When Cooper is made a secret spy, she doesn’t let the things she’s been told hold her back. She evolves into a confident agent and pushes herself to finish her mission.
Melissa McCarthy is Susan Cooper, a CIA analyst, who volunteers to go deep undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer, and prevent a global disaster.
The movie is rated R due to language. There are some powerful F-bombs and pictures of body parts. If you have children, keep this in mind. I still found the movie to be funny. I was laughing out loud and our guests also enjoyed the movie.
We received a box filled with SPY goodies.
The kiddos helped set everything up.
They really got into the fun. They hosted their own SPY party using some of the great ideas we found for SPY Party Ideas on Pinterest.
They even chose to dress up. Here they are in their SPY disguises.
Miss M makes a great Susan Cooper and Li’l Man blends in well with the lounging crowd! Their friends came with big sunglasses, floppy hats, and more.
Guests each received a Secret Agent Gift Case with a Red Cross Flashlight + Smart Phone charger–a great tool for those longer stake-outs!
We also received a code to purchase Spy on Digital HD. It was very easy to purchase and within minutes we were ready to watch. I love that the digital HD offers the same features as Blu-ray, but I can watch it online anywhere–and trust me, this is a movie, I’ve watched a few times!
Melissa McCarthy faces off against a knife-wielding adversary (Nargis Fakhri).
There were moments the movie seemed to drag or the joke went a little too long, but with a list of amazing cast members, Jude Law, Jason Statham, Rose Byrne and more they were forgivable. The jokes were witty and smart and there was physical comedy that gave the movie more humor and balance.
Susan Cooper (Melissa McCarthy) clearly has eyes for her partner, superspy Bradley Fine (Jude Law).
Overall, we really love SPY and had a great time hosting a SPY viewing party with our friends.
