A home should be a safe haven. It should be a place you arrive at able to relax and escape the world. Two years ago, our home quickly became frightening. Our home security was locking our doors when we left. We lived on a busy street, and I suppose, thinking back on that, we felt this was a deterrent.
It was the Wednesday before Christmas.
Our tree was up and there were gifts from out-of-town relatives for the children beneath it.
I came home to this:
Our backdoor had been kicked in–they had been kind enough to close it behind them so Bailey Mae wouldn’t run away.
I guess I should be thankful for that; right?
The backdoor was their entrance in and from there, it looked like they had watched us–they stole EVERY electronic device in our home: television, Nexus, iPad, laptop, Play Station, Wii, iPhone, Kindle Fire and more.
They also stole our Christmas.
It was an evening I really wanted to just come home from my day at work, after an hour and a half drive, and relax.
Instead, we had detectives questioning and dusting for fingerprints.
Then, the police left and fear set in.
I needed a home security system. It had to be easy to use to work with the kiddos and myself.
I went with the home security system offered through my cable company.
Two weeks in and I was calling the alarm company because it was 4:30 in the morning and I needed to be on the road to work, instead, the alarm interface wasn’t working and I was “locked in” with the alarm.
The alarm company representative told me, “Someone will be in at 7 am who can help you.”
Yeah, that wasn’t working for me.
I was paying for the home security system to keep the bad people out, not my family in!

Canary has a free mobile app, allowing me to check in on my pets, kiddos and home anytime I’m away. I have a greater peace of mind being able to see what’s happening in my home from anywhere with my iPhone® or Android smartphone. I can use the “Watch Live” feature for what’s happening right now.
The app also allows me to receive movement-detection notification with recorded footage and, should something be not right, I can sound the siren!
