Instead of a World Without Those Whose Life it Claims
This post is about one of my favorite people.
Her name, Georgina. When she was born, in Cuba, her older brother was taken to the hospital to meet his sister, he took one look at her and said, “Oh, Mama, she is Moni!”
From that day forward, she was Moni, her brother’s name for “BEAUTIFUL”.
I didn’t meet her until my 20s.
I was married, to her nephew.
She and her husband and only child, a son, had just moved to Miami, Florida from Connecticut.
I didn’t know the story of her name until I made the comment that “Your Aunt Moni is beautiful!”
And she was…outside and inside.
She radiated a room.
Her smile was amazing and made you laugh.
Billy Idol even sang about her in a song he, I’m certain, titled in her honor:
She had it removed and after much thought, and without any diagnosis, opted to have her other breast removed. ..you know, to be sure.
She changed her diet.
She was determined and fought.
She still lit up any room.
She went into recession.
Within six years from her diagnosis, Breast Cancer claimed her.
She left behind her son, gave him the soul of a man overnight.
She left behind her husband, the love of her life.
She left behind so many who loved her and so many whose life will never know the beauty of Moni.
She left behind me.
I love you Mony mo-mo-mony
I love you Mony mo-mo-mony sure I do
I love you Mony mo-mo-mony sure I do
I love you Mony mo-mo-mony sure I do
I love you Mony mo-mo-mony sure I do
I love you Mony mo-mo-mony sure I do
I love you Mony mo-mo-mony sure I do
I love you Mony mo-mo-mony
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Not a day goes by that my eyes don’t look up to the Heavens, missing Moni.
Billy Idol and I are her voice:
Come on, come on
Come on, come on
Come on, come on
Come on, come on
Come on, come on
Feel all right, I said yeah, yeah, yeah,
yeah, yeah, yeah
Come On, help fight cancer.
Give it a T.K.O. so that EVERYONE can Feel all right.
