Artobet Review

Artobet is introducing my children to art in a creative way. My children, except Li’l Man, have all loved art. They have enjoyed painting the bottom of the kitchen table, pretending to be Michelangelo. We have experimented with lines to show movement like Picaso. We have sculpted and cooed over great artwork.

With Artobet, my children can now join children and the babysitter and be taken on a magical journey with the help of a box of beads, some magical string, and a looking glass like no other. A is no longer simply for “Apple.”

About Artobet

Two moms, an innovative teacher, who created an original early reading program, and the other mom, an award-winning filmmaker, combined their talents to create Artobet.

I’ve watched it a few times through with the girls. I am always surprised at how many artists are captured on this DVD. There are many I recognize, others whose work I am familiar with and still others that I was inspired to look up and learn more about their work and them.  The girls love repeating the artist’s names and giggle at the children in the movie who “become” the art. It really brings paintings to life.

From the Artobet Website:

It was a quiet afternoon, not much to do but hang out with friends and a favorite babysitter. Add a box of magical beads, an enchanted magnifying glass, and a skateboarding cohort, and these kids are off to discover an ArtObet, a world of great artists from A to Z. With engaging stories, beautiful paintings, period music and easily chanted poems, children everywhere can join the adventure. ArtObet was created by two moms, one an innovative teacher who created an original early reading program, and the other an award-winning filmmaker. ArtObet is the first in the Little Great Thinkers™ Series created to inspire the great thinker in us all.

Artobet Review

I had hoped Artobet would inspire Li’l Man, but no such luck. I keep hoping someday, but I think he is far too logical to give in. After all, he was my kiddo. When asked if he wanted a coloring book replied, “Are you kidding? All those lines take the fun out of coloring.”

The girls adore this movie. They are discovering the world of art at a level I’m unable to share with them, but together, as we learn, the exploration is a beatuiful journey. I want my children to appreciate the arts. I want them to develop their own talents and see the beauty in many things. I feel Artobet is a step in these directions.

I am impressed by the variety of artists and the works captured in Artobet.   I wish some of the more modern artists, perhaps Warhol?, would have been included. I’m not complaining because this movie is so well done and informative that truly those artists it captures lead the way, as they did in art, for the next generation of greatness.

I encourage you to visit the Artobet website http://artobet.com/ and explore to see for yourself the beauty captured in this great DVD.
