For three-and-one-half-years, our family has been filled with the joy of our schweenie, Bailey Mae. I remember the day we found her on a KSL Classified ad. She was one of four puppies. Her mom a miniature dachshund and her dad a Shih Tzu. She was the only long-haired puppy, with the dachshund face. The house where she was born wanted to keep her, but I convinced them otherwise. She had personality and spunk!

We laugh because I asked, “And what are you feeding her?” as we departed. I didn’t want to upset her tummy with a sudden change in food. They told me she was eating a brand of cat food. We bought the same and added Beneful to get her the nutrition a dog needs.
Beneful is a brand based on nutrition. Its name fortifies this–“Beneful” means “full of goodness”. I love the chunks in the dry food and they are perfectly sized for her pint-sized.
She has grown into an amazing, loyal and adorable family member. She tucks the kiddos in at night, wakes us up in the morning and brings such delight in our everyday.

On August 28, my husband sent me a text telling me that he’s seen a brown dog in our neighborhood for the past three weeks and he was determined to catch it and make it ours.
This brown dog was sly. He was smart and fast.
The next day, my husband and the neighbor managed to trap him in the neighbor’s dog house. My husband tried to carry him, but it was like a rodeo–the brown dog the rider, my husband the horse. Still, when they went to the ground, my husband reached for the dog, who wanted to bite him and reclaim his freedom, but instead, he just took a break.

We called the SPCA who was running a shot and check up special, so we took him in.
This brown dog was so afraid. He flinched and jumped at a movement. He feared people. He was broken.
The vet estimated he was three to four years old–a mutt.

He was starving. His rib cage prominent. He would not take food from us.
Each night we set a bowl of Beneful out for him, filled the water bowl and hoped he’d eat.
Three days later, we heard his crunching food.
His appetite was back. His first three weeks with us, he and Bailey Mae consumed 3-4 pounds of Beneful!
We named him JEB–after the sheep in MineCraft!

He’s fitting right in and gaining weight. He is incredibly smart and is the first “talking” dog I’ve encountered. He will “talk” to my husband when he needs to go outside to potty when he wants something. He’s most likely to chatter if he knows there is pizza in the house!!
He and Bailey Mae are best friends and enjoy chasing one another through the house!
