Easy Dirt Cup Pudding Recipe

Dirt Cup pudding. Also called Oreo Dirt Cups.

We also have an “Adult Version” Dirt Cup that’s fun for grown-up gatherings!

Dirt Cup Pudding is my kiddo’s favorite. Even as they grow older, they don’t seem to outgrow their love for these Oreo dirt cup puddings—they even love to make them!

They ask for them for dessert, to share at birthday parties, and as an after-school snack. The possibilities are endless!

I love that the preparation is almost non-existent. These easy pudding treats take just minutes to make and don’t require baking!

It’s one of the first desserts my children learned to make. They love helping mix the ingredients and adding the “dirt” and gummy worms to each cup.

It’s layers of creamy chocolate pudding, fine cookie crumbs, and chewy gummy creatures. Fun to look at and even better to eat!

Easy Dirt Cup Pudding recipe with Oreo “dirt” and gummy worms! A fun, no-bake treat for parties or after-school snacks. Kid-friendly and delicious.

Prep is Easy

There’s a little prep involved—you’ll need to crush cookies. But don’t worry! Just toss them in a resealable bag and use a rolling pin, or pulse in a food processor.

Pro Tip: Want a beachy version? Make “Sand Cups” by swapping in French Vanilla Pudding, vanilla wafers, or Golden Oreos!

You Only Need Five Ingredients!

  • Chocolate pudding mix
  • Cold milk
  • Cool Whip or whipped topping
  • Oreo or chocolate sandwich cookies
  • Gummy worms

How to Make Dirt Cup Pudding

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 (4 oz.) package instant chocolate pudding
  • 3-1/2 cups Cool Whip, thawed
  • 1 package (16 oz.) chocolate sandwich cookies
  • Gummy worms
  • 10 clear or paper 8 oz. cups

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk the pudding mix into the milk for 2 minutes.
  2. Let the pudding rest 5 minutes to thicken.
  3. Optional: Stir in 1/2 cup crushed Oreos for extra “crunch”.
  4. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon cookie crumbs into each cup.
  5. Gently fold in the Cool Whip—do not stir aggressively or it will deflate.
  6. Spoon pudding mixture into each cup, filling them 3/4 full.
  7. Top with remaining Oreo crumbs and add gummy worms (about 4 per cup).
  8. Chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour before serving.

Quick & Easy Hack

Short on time? Use store-bought pudding cups! Just add crushed Oreos and worms for instant dirt cups.

Fun Variations & Substitutes

  • Use homemade chocolate pudding instead of instant
  • Alternate layers of pudding and crushed cookies for a parfait-style dessert
  • Try toppings like M&Ms, Swedish fish, sour worms, or chocolate chips

“Adult” Version: Boozy Dirt Cups

Hosting a grown-up get-together? Swap 1/2 cup of the milk for Bailey’s Irish Cream.

Ratio: 1/2 cup Bailey’s + 1-1/2 cups milk = indulgent, creamy pudding base
