Southern Iced Tea with Fruit Recipe

Beat the heat with Southern Summer Iced Tea with fruit! Refreshing iced tea infused with fresh fruit flavors. Sweetened to perfection with Equal®.

Presented by Equal® 0-Calorie Sweetener, we proudly embrace the time-honored tradition of sweet tea here in the South. When we say sweet, we mean SWEET—picture 20 percent of the glass filled with dissolved sugar, sometimes even surpassing the sugar content of a can of Coca-Cola. To balance out all that sweetness, our tea is brewed strong and bold.

The classic recipe involves using seven Lipton tea bags, steeped in hot water, then combined with copious cups of sugar and diluted to fill the rest of the gallon pitcher. Of course, it’s served over ice because that’s how we like to enjoy it.

If you’re interested in alternative options, we also have a comprehensive guide on how to brew iced tea with other variations.

Most likely, you will be drinking what Dolly Parton described in Steel Magnolias, “the house wine of the South” on the front porch, where you’ll sweat as much as your glass of sweet tea.

The significance of ice in this beverage cannot be underestimated. In days gone by, ice was considered a luxury, arriving via ships or specialized deliveries. Refrigerators as we know them today were not yet invented. But back to the tea—authentic Southerners can undoubtedly tell the difference between freshly brewed tea and the concentrated variety. Trust us, we know our tea!

Southern hospitality dictates that we offer sweet tea to our visitors. If you happen to dine at a restaurant around here, be prepared for the default “tea” order to be sweet. If you prefer less sugar, you’ll need to request it “unsweetened,” but be ready for a few disapproving glances.

Ah, Southern Sweet Tea—we adore it. However, the downside is the impact it can have on our waistlines due to all the sugar. That’s where Equal® comes to the rescue! Equal® is a remarkable sugar alternative that adds just the right amount of sweetness and flavor without the added calories. It has become an essential part of our daily beverage ritual, elevating the taste of coffee, tea, iced tea, and lemonade alike.

The versatility of Equal® doesn’t stop there—it can be sprinkled on cereal and fruit, and used in various baking and cooking recipes. This 0 Calorie Sweetener is particularly beneficial for those who want to reduce their sugar intake or manage their blood glucose levels, making it an excellent option for individuals, especially those living with diabetes.
