Disney’s The Little Mermaid is one of my most favorite characters and animated movies. I love the characters, the music, the vibrant colors, and the story! On November 19, 2013 for the first time on Disney Blu-Ray, The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea and The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning arrive in stores nationwide as a combo pack!
This movie was released in 1989, the year my firstborn arrived in the world.
The Little Mermaid earned $84.4 million at the North American box office, becoming the animated film with the highest gross from its initial run.
This was Disney’s first animated fairytale since the 1959 release of Sleeping Beauty.
It is a magical, musical animated film.
Disney’s 28th animated feature is based loosely on Hans Christian Andersen’s 1837 fairytale of the same name.
The Little Mermaid is given credit for breathing life back into the art of Disney animated feature films after some films produced by Disney were struggling.
The film won two Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song (“Under the Sea“).
It made its Broadway debut in July 2007 and closed January 10, 2008.,
Sierra Boggess was the star of the Broadway adaptation.
