The Best Apple Pie a Sweet, Sour, and Delicious Dessert!

This recipe for the best Apple Pie takes the traditional apple pie and adds a twist for a sweet-sour and delicious dessert.

The twist?

Citric Acid

Citric Acid has Many Uses

I received Dowd & Rogers Citric Acid in order to facilitate an honest review.

I am still discovering new things to use Citric Acid for around the house.

If you’re more into baking, discover the difference a little citric acid can do to Apple Pie!

It’s the same American Apple Pie you’ve come to love with a hit of sour that elevates the flavors.

Top this pie with homemade whipped cream or drizzle with homemade caramel.

APPLE PIE: a sweet, sour, and delicious dessert!

Ingredients:

½ cup Coconut Palm Sugar

2 tablespoons Almond Flour

1 teaspoon Citric Acid

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

7 cups thinly sliced apples – about 8 medium apples

1 tablespoon butter, cut up.

1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie

4 tablespoons milk

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).

2. Mix sugar, flour, citric acid, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Add apples and stir until mixed.

3. Line one crust in a 9-inch deep-dish pie pan (unbaked).

Add apple mixture and top with slices of butter (you may also like the addition of Instant Pot Apple Butter, a few tablespoons is all you need).

4. Place the second pie crust on top of the filling.

You can put the whole crust over or lattice the top.

If you do not lattice, cut vents in top crust and brush with milk for a glazed appearance if desired.

5. Bake at 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) for 40 to 50 minutes.

Approximately 8 servings.
