Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Movie Review and World Premiere

From a comic created the year I was born (1969), James Gunn co-writes Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and lets the craziness unravel. The reality is with GotG earning worldwide box-office jackpot of $773 million; there had to be a sequel.

Stan Lee has created incredible superheroes for Marvel Comics that are a staple of American culture. At our house, it’s difficult to even imagine life without one of Stan Lee’s superheroes.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, puts Marvel Cinematic Universe at 15 films.

I was a guest of Disney last week when I attended the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Red Carpet and World Premiere. It was a night of memories.

I was able to walk the red carpet.

We arrived on the red carpet it was a galaxy purple with a lot of neon.

There was a moment to pose for a picture.

There were celebrities everywhere, including Chris Pratt with his wife, Anna Faris.

The Insider was interviewing Chris Pratt talking about his son, Jack. They happened to catch me on the red carpet, which led to this picture of me with Anna Faris, and David Hasselhoff.

At the end of the red carpet, there was a staircase. The infamous Academy Awards Staircase. It was picture worthy!

The stairs led into the Dolby Theatre–where The Oscars take place.

I sat in the front row, Orchestra Section. Probably in the same seat, Meryl Streep sat when she won an Oscar.

Then the lights dimmed, a spotlight circled overhead, smoke filled the doorways, and the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was announced as the emerged from the smoke and took the stage.

James Gunn dedicated the movie to his parents in a touching tribute.

The lights faded and the screen lit up with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘s World Premiere.

Starring Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, a role that seems like Indiana Jones meets Fletch, the movie also brings back Zoe Saldana as Gamora, the assassin-green-skinned-alien, who in her downtime shuts down Quill on his advances towards her. Dave Bautista, known for his wrestling belts, returns as the larger-than-life, overly tattooed and perpetually pissed off Drax the Destroyer. Then there’s Rocket, the computerized, gun-toting, smart-aleck raccoon voiced by Bradley Cooper, and of course, everyone’s favorite, the tiny tree, with a small voice spoken by Vin Diesel, whose words “I am Groot” seem to translate into the ultimate in comedy.

While we know that in the world of Superheroes they will prevail, perhaps it’s that Guardians of the Galaxy‘s characters remind us of our shortcomings and deliver humor that forces us to laugh at ourselves that makes us love this group of misfits.

You’ll remember in the original movie, the plot centered around a magic orb and the goal to keep it from the evil guy or face the complete destruction of the Galaxy.

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Peter Quinn and his Guardians are hired to protect batteries that keep a gold-plated race of aliens, known as the Sovereign, led by High Priestess Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) running. Remember, however, that there are thieves, like Rocket, who, true to form, steals a few batteries for himself, leading to the ultimate space battle.

There’s a crash on Bernhardt, a living planet, that is lead by an astral being named Ego (Kurt Russell), who….well, it’s a lot like that time Darth Vader told Luke, “I am your father.” Casting doesn’t get much more perfect that Kurt Russell as the father of Chris Pratt.

You’ll see Gamora (Zoe Saldana), and Nebula (Karen Gillan) have that whole sibling rivalry happening.

Michael Rooker as Yondu is exceptional. His performance had me on the edge of the seat. He is brilliant. His character seems to speak, even when his mouth isn’t moving.

For me, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was a rollercoaster ride of joy, humor, sadness, and irreverence. It’s filled with the liveliness and cheeky humor, placed in a Galaxy with outrageous worlds and 80’s references. The cameos are many, including Miley Cyrus as Mainframe. There’s also so much Baby Groot!! And of course, there is an incredible soundtrack for Meredith Quill’s Mixed Tape Vol. 2.

Be there opening weekend for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on May 5th and see your favorite characters larger than life and be introduced to others who will soon be your favorite.
