Lose Weight with 416 Great Recipes!
My luxury is cookbooks. I love them. The pages packed with goodness broken down into ingredients and directions. A picture that lures me and makes my mouth water and sometimes the absolute need to dirty the kitchen and recreate the moment from someone else’s kitchen.
Taste of Home has created a cookbook that is designed to help maintain weight while still providing taste. Usually weight loss and good taste don’t fall into the same sentence, but Taste of Home Comfort Food Diet Cookbook pulls it off. It’s a great balance of entrees and desserts. There is no need to feel deprived, which usually sends me into an eating frenzy. There’s 416 great recipes tucked between the glossy cover and 35 beautiful pictures that start the salivation!
All my favorite comfort foods are here, Macaroni and Cheese, Pizza, Meat Loaf, Lasagna. It’s diet decadence.
The book has an introduction to “Making It Work for You”. There’s information that gives comfort in Comfort Food Basics. From here the reading continues into Balancing Your Diet, Portion Control, Get the (Nutrition) Facts, and more.
I liked the chapter on Lighten Up Your Family Favorites. Here it talks about portion sizes. It offers simple things to cut back, just a tad without losing flavor and texture. Things like: “When adding chopped mix-ins such as nuts, chips, raisins, or coconut to dessert, decrease the amount a bit. Try using mini-chips”. I love the simplicity of advice: “Toast nuts and coconut so smaller amounts have a stronger flavor.”
This book is more than a cookbook, it’s a lifestyle. It is detailed in portion control and with recipes that are still tasty moving the user into a healthier lifestyle with the end result in a thinner waistline.
The Taste of Home Comfort Food Diet Cookbook is broken down into sections. It outlines everything for even the laziest (me) in a 6-week meal plan. There’s a breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack section. Every recipe shows nutrition facts making it easy to see calories and proteins. Even more exciting is that food is categorized by the number of calories per serving, making it a simple approach to sticking to the plan.
I’m all about variety in my food and the Taste of Home Comfort Food Diet Cookbook rocks my socks. There’s diversity in the food (Tasty Italian Chicken, Chili Sauce Meat Loaf, Slow-Cooked Sweet N Sour Pork, Creamy Swiss Steak and more), the ingredients won’t bankrupt you and the directions are easy to follow. The book also gives you a complimentary one-year subscription to Healthy Cooking magazine (a $23.94 value) which means more wonderful recipes!
Whether looking to trim the middle or just seeking a healthier option for traditional comfort food, Taste of Home Comfort Food Diet Cookbook is a great book to add to the cookbook collection!
