Three simple words. Combined, they can become an operation of worth, stop the fat talk, set life in perspective, and transform our gender into a powerful, resilient woman. A woman who sees herself as she should and without fear of judgment.
These three words started, Operation Beautiful: Transforming the Way You See Yourself One Post-It Note at a Time by Caitlin Boyle I knew it was something I could believe in, but I had no preparation for its inspiration. I sat down the night I received this book and read it, tuning out the clatter around me. It was a quick read and yet its message was powerful.
The author begins the book as a tween and shares the personal journey of her life. It’s a story we can, as females, relate to without pause. Then, years later, it began, a public restroom, a mirror, a woman struggling to disbelieve what society says, a post-it note, and those three brilliant words, “You are beautiful!”
What started as an affirmation to herself became an affirmation to the next to read it.
Operation Beautiful is: “to post anonymous notes in public places for other women to find. The point is that WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL. You are enough…just the way you are!”
This book moved me. It’s a compilation of stories from women who have left and found the Operation Beautiful notes. It’s a progression from when the project started to the impression it will leave on you to join Operation Beautiful.
As I read this book I was in awe at how potent the message is to females. It defies the repetition that we are not good enough…pretty enough…thing enough…strong enough…smart enough… It reminds us that we are enough.
Operation Beautiful: Transforming the Way You See Yourself One Post-it Note at a Time is sectioned by topics we hear often, the Fat Talk, Our Fitness, Emotional Vampires, etc, and includes some great tips to defend ourselves against this poppycock!
I believe in the power of affirmation. I have several that I repeat to myself often. Lately, my favorite has been “I’m a Lean, Mean, Fat Burning Machine” and “I am worth this moment”. My mantras change often but they each confirm I. Am. Beautiful.
Thinking about my own self-talks and reading Operation Beautiful had me put a pad of post-it notes in my purse. I have yet to act on this impulse, but there is a mirror, a magazine, a moment when I will become the continuation of Operation Beautiful. It’s going to be amazing!
