Recipe: Sour Cream Sugar Cookies

It’s July 9. A delicious day as it is National Sugar Cookie Day! I’m a cookie monster at heart and sugar cookies are one of my absolute favorites! I especially love them gooping with gobs of icing. I like my sugar cookies melt in your mouth soft.

We’re making today about family time as we bake up sugar cookies.

Here is one of our favorite sugar cookie recipes.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup butter-flavored Crisco (don’t cut corners here) 1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup sour cream
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt

Directions:

Beat shortening with sugar until fluffy.

Add Eggs and vanilla and beat until creamy.

Mix in 1/2 cup sour cream. Stirring until well mixed.

Combine dry ingredients flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Add to shortening mixture.

Refrigerate dough for one hour. Roll out on powdered sugar surface about 1/8″ to 1/4″ thick.

Bake at 350° for 8-10 minutes. (My first batch I typically do 11-12 minutes) The bottom should be golden and the tops puffy. While I normally remove my cookies immediately, these I leave to rest on the cookie sheet for about 8 minutes to allow them to “set”.

Eat ’em plain or top with your favorite icing!
