Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

As a Captain Jack Sparrow fan, I was so excited to go to the premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. I had no idea how exciting it was going to be until we walked in and discovered it was an IMAX 3D event! I’ve only been to one before, and as Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides started, I realized it was nothing in comparison!

I was like a kid in a candy store, so taken by the power of 3D, it truly made me feel like I had been transported to the world of Captain Jack Sparrow, living the action right there with him.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Angelica, Jack, Blackbeard

The storyline was great.  It had a lot of twists and turns and great humor. I thought Johnny Depp delivered Captain Jack Sparrow well, however, there was something off for me and I’m not quite sure what. Perhaps it was just that we were seeing another side of him. Johnny Depp fans will be thrilled to know that there is virtually no scene in this movie that he doesn’t appear–or so it seems!

I loved the mix of fantasy and adventure. It was very captivating. I truly cannot say enough about the 3D. When fantasy collides with 3D there are some amazing scenes…take the mermaids for example. It was like being in the sea with them. Parents, please note that the mermaids are not Ariel, they are the old school mermaids that are lovely to view but deadly to encounter.

Then there is the tromp through the jungle where we stand at the edge of the cliff with Capt. Jack Sparrow, looking down. It made my heart race it was so real!

There were a few scenes where I jumped from being startled. I laughed a lot.

Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightly didn’t appear in Pirates 4, however, Penelope Cruz did a great job in her character as Angelica. Together Angelica and Capt. Jack search for the Fountain of Youth. There adventure is not all fun and games as they are joined by Black Beard,  Hector Barbossa and Joshamee Gibbs. It’s a race to see who gets there first!

There were some scenes, like the walk through the jungle, where I thought it went too long. It lost my attention, though later scenes drew me back. My husband didn’t care for the movie at all. Li’l Man and The Divine Miss M thought it was “awesome”!
