How to Make Instant Pot Cherry Dump Cake:

  1. Prepare a 6-inch Instant Pot-safe baking pan by lightly spraying it with non-stick cooking spray. Pour one cup of water into the inner stainless steel Instant Pot and add the trivet.
  2. Pour both cans of cherry pie filling into the prepared baking pan.
  3. Evenly sprinkle the yellow cake mix over the cherry filling.
  4. Place the sliced butter evenly across the cake mix, and tightly seal the pan with aluminum foil.
  5. Using a foil sling, place the baking dish onto the trivet in the Instant Pot. Cover with the Instant Pot lid, turn the vent to the sealing position, and select the “PRESSURE COOK” setting for 25 minutes.
  6. Once the cooking time is complete, allow a 5-minute natural release, then turn the valve to release any remaining pressure until the pin drops.
  7. Remove the lid, and carefully lift the trivet out of the pot using the foil sling.
  8. Sprinkle granulated sugar over the top of the cake, if desired.
  9. Allow the cake to cool slightly, then serve and enjoy!

Helpful Tips:

  • Store any remaining cake mix in an airtight container for future use.
  • A cake mix that weighs 15.25 ounces has 3 cups
  • For a crispier topping, broil the dump cake in the oven for 5 minutes. You can also add a tablespoon of granulated sugar on top before broiling for extra flavor.

Storage:

Store leftover cherry dump cake in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

FAQs:

Q: Can I use a different fruit pie filling? A: Yes, you can use other fruit pie fillings, such as peach or apple, following the same instructions.

Q: Can I freeze the cherry dump cake? A: Yes, you can freeze the cake. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and then in foil before placing it in the freezer. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.

How to Make a Sling for the Instant Pot:

To make a foil sling for your Instant Pot, take a long piece of aluminum foil and fold it into thirds lengthwise. The length should be enough to go in the Instant Pot under a pan and up the side of the Instant Pot to allow you to easily lift the pan out. Place the pan in the center of the foil sling, then lift the ends of the sling to carefully lower the pan into the Instant Pot. The sling will help you lift the hot pan out of the Instant Pot when your food is done cooking.
