This afternoon, as I prepared potato salad, made strawberry pie, and readied myself for company, Li’l Man came into the kitchen and asked, “What are you making?”

I replied, “A feast worthy of our Forefathers.”

Li’l Man pondered this and then said, “Hmmm… I don’t remember meeting our Forefathers.”

We had a wonderful talk about how America came to be so great and the men who died and pioneered the way to our freedom. When The Divine Miss M entered the kitchen, Li’l Man shared with her that we were making a feast for our Forefathers, and though they lived a long time ago, we were giving thanks for them.

As Li’l Man left the kitchen, he was singing Lee Greenwood’s “Proud To Be An American.” It made my heart thump with pride! This was the perfect introduction to our Fourth of July celebration, and we carried on the patriotism with Slacker’s 4th of July Celebration station.
