Want to Buy A Flashlight? Here Are 6 Things You Should Consider

Sharing is caring!

Finding your way during a blackout requires a reliable source of light. One of the solutions to this problem, which mostly comes unexpectedly, is getting a good flashlight. Flashlights are not only useful when there is a power blackout, they also come in handy when you are camping or are on a night drive. Just because a flashlight is producing light doesn’t mean it is a good fit for your needs. There are several things you should consider. In this article, we discuss some of them.

1. Battery Type

A flashlight can have a disposable or rechargeable battery. With the disposable ones, you will dispose of the batteries once they run out of charge and replace them with others. These are ideal for people who use flashlights only a few times. When using these flashlights, always have extra batteries in your house or bag when traveling. These flashlights offer many conveniences since they can be used anywhere, whether there is power or not.

Rechargeable flashlights are ideal if you intend to use your flashlight frequently. Replacing a battery now and then is more expensive than recharging a flashlight. The only limitation is that they can only be used where there is a power connection.

2. Run Time

A flashlight run time is another factor you should consider when shopping around. If you need to use your flashlight for long durations, go for one with a big battery. It can be pricier, but at least you will have something that suits your needs. The flashlight’s size can also tell more about its runtime. A smaller flashlight will most likely have a shorter run time than a bigger one since it’s more likely to have a small battery.

3. Water Resistance

If you want a flashlight you can use as it rains or around water, get a waterproof one. There are different water resistance ratings for flashlights. Flashlight water resistance ratings start from IPX0 (offering the least water resistance to IPX9 offering the highest level of water resistance). Depending on the purpose, make sure you choose a suitable item.

4. Beam

The type of beam is one of the things you should never overlook when buying a flashlight. What determines the kind of beam a flashlight has is the type of lens reflectors surrounding its bulb. A flood beam is more appropriate for large areas, while a spot beam is perfect for a small space. A focused beam is even better since you can adjust it to suit your individual needs.

5. Material

Flashlights are made of different materials, the most common being plastic and aluminum. A plastic flashlight is not very durable, and you need to handle it with caution to avoid breakage. An aluminum one is more durable and is more suitable since it can withstand a bit of roughness.

6. Weight

Although weight is not usually a common concern for people looking forward to buying a flashlight, you might want to consider it for various reasons. If you are using a flashlight for several hours, go for one that doesn’t feel heavy on you. In this case, a small, light flashlight will be ideal. Larger flashlights are usually heavier and may have better features such as more durability and longer run time compared to light flashlights. Consider both factors to choose the right Fenix flashlight that will meet your needs.

Flashlights are not things you buy every day. That is why you need to consider some factors before buying one and to make sure you get an item that meets your individual needs. By doing so, you will always be sure that you have a reliable source of light in case there is a power blackout or you want to go camping.
