In 1990 any doubt I had about angels evaporated.
We were coming home from my mom’s over the holidays.
It was a blizzard and warranted cautious driving.
I was driving our Honda Civic, my husband in the passenger seat and Jake buckled in the back, just over a year old.
A cassette tape was filling the background. I remember it was gloomy and I needed to change from the left lane into the right.
I could see car lights behind me several car lengths and no one was ahead.
I turned on my signal and very slowly and with great caution began the lane transition.
What happened next was terrifying. The Honda began spinning and we slid sideways through the muddy median.
If you’ve been to South Carolina, you know they have concrete dividers in the medians.
At one point I remember watching in horror the concrete divider growing closer at a very rapid rate.
I was certain we were going to be injured, possibly die!
I’m sure it was merely minutes but it all seemed to play out in slow motion.
The spinning, the sliding, and then finally, it all stopped.
We were on the side of the road, facing the right direction and the car was still running!
Once our nerves settled a bit, my husband and I got out of the car to assess the damage.
Jake was okay.
The cassette tape had ejected and was lodged behind his car seat.
The road was silent.
There was not a car on-site except for a red Jeep Cherokee.
It was parked on the other side of the road, maybe half a length of a football field.
A woman was standing behind it.
That woman, to this day, I believe, is my guardian angel.
She spoke–not yelled–asking if were okay.
We replied that we were.
She asked if everyone was okay.
We were.
She then told us to drive ahead, and just passed the underpass, there was a rest stop.
We agreed.
Then she got in the Cherokee and drove through the underpass and disappeared.
Just like that.
I know I’m not crazy.
My husband would tell this story just as I am.
He was there.
We got in the Honda and drove to the rest stop.
There was not a scratch on it.
When we got home, we took the car in for an oil change and were asked if we had been four-wheeling in the Civic.
We replied, “Of course not”, then they showed us the undercarriage; it was packed tightly with mud and grass in every nook and cranny.

Like you.
Like Me.
I was captivated by the title, and it kept pulling me in with its stunningly illustrated pictures and awesome stories of real-life encounters with angels.
I loved the scriptures being included that told of angels and the role they play throughout our lives.
This book is more than Daniel and the Fiery Furnace; it’s told by people who are ordinary folks who have experienced angels in their life.
One of the stories I loved was the story of a toddler who fell from an eight-foot balcony onto the pavement below.
There is a beautiful story about Agnes Frazier and her transition from this life to her eternal home.
The book opens with a story about the home of Richard Hendrix.
This story made me not look back but continue to read.
This book and I have spent some quality time together.
As I’ve left my grandma after a long day of doctor’s appointments or heavy conversation about her daughter and cancer.
Angels: True Stories lifted me up.
It made me feel good.
It gave me hope.
Remind someone, even if it’s just yourself, of the power and presence of angels.
Take a moment to explore stories that warm the soul and share them with family and friends.
It’s a great holiday or everyday read.
