Crazy Things We do For Love

Queen sang, “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, Willie Nelson wrote, “Crazy” and Captain and Tenille belted out “Love Will Keep Us Together”. It’s a human emotion that seems to push some folks to the edge. One television character that pushes this to its point is Two and a Half Men’s, Rose. She’s a great character, who happens to be Charlie’s stalker.

Charlie realizes he has feelings for Rose and sets out to let her know and ends up catching a glimpse of her getting married. If you’ve watched Two and a Half Men, you know Rose is sorta crazy. Turns out, Rose staged the whole marriage in front of an audience of mannequins to make Charlie jealous, proving that love can drive us to do some pretty crazy things.

While I will never admit to having done anything crazy in the name of love, I have rounded up some pretty crazy things people have done for love:

* Gave up the thrown: That would be Britain’s King Edward VIII when he fell in love with a two-time divorcee and American socialite, Wallis Simpson. In December 1936 he broadcast to the nation “I have found it impossible to carry the heavy burden of responsibility and to discharge my duties as king as I would wish to do without the help and support of the woman I love. The couple married in May 1937 and remained together until Edward’s death in 1972.

*While we’re talking about royalty, let’s talk about the Boleyn girl, Anne.  The one that King Henry VIII fell madly in love with, while he was married to Catherine of Aragon. Being Catholic, the Pope said, “Nope”, so Henry became Supreme Head of the Church of England, annulled the marriage with Catherine, and married Anne. He was also excommunicated from the Catholic Church. Regretably, crazy hasn’t happened just yet in this story.

Henry marries Anne in January of 1533 and nine months later, Anne gives birth to Elizabeth–yup! the future queen of England. King Henry wants a boy. Anne gets pregnant many times, but they all end in miscarriages or stillbirths. When King Henry learns that one of the stillborn babies was a boy, he loses his marbles. Enter Jane Seymour, Anne’s Maid of Honor.

History repeats itself, this time Henry falls for Jane. Instead of annulling the marriage with Anne, King Henry believes allegations of Anne having an affair, incest and treason and has Anne beheaded in 1536. Whoa!

*Jada Pinkette Smith once jumped off a building for Will Smith.

*Van Gogh cut off his ear and gave it to a girl named, Rachel

*How about the wild thing John Hinkley Jr. did to catch Jodie Foster’s love? Poor Ronald Reagan!

*The man who carved a 6,000 stair path into a mountain for his wife.

What’s the craziest thing you or a friend have done to get someone’s attention?
