Review: Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Review

This game has an ESRB Rating: Mature

Available for XBox 360, PS3 or PC

If you’ve played Modern Warfare, you know all about John “Soap” Mactavish.

First off, let me say that I’m a huge fan of the Call of Duty series.

I can honestly say that I’ve suffered through each of the campaigns on Veteran and I’ve loved it.

Let me tell you, Modern Warfare 2 has one of the most intensely enjoyable campaigns of them all.

I literally could not put down the controller.

The majority of my playtime is done on the Xbox 360 version of the game but the PlayStation 3 version plays almost identically.

If you’ve played Modern Warfare, you know all about John “Soap” Mactavish.

He’s one of the most bad-ass video game protagonists ever to grace a console.

He’s become captain of an elite group of soldiers called Task Force 141.

Let’s just say that this group gets the job done!

You’ll get to serve under Captain Mactavish as Sgt. Gary Roach.

The story takes you places that earlier games in the Call of Duty series never dared to go.

It truly is intense combat experience.

The basic plot of the story is that a Russian terrorist by the name of Makarov stages an attack on civilians in a Russian airport and Americans take the blame.

The Russians then launch an attack against the United States. You’ll find out what happens from there!

The gameplay is very similar to the other Call of Duty titles but it seems to be a little more fluid.

The controls are very responsive and it’s a lot easier to maneuver around.

The graphics are definitely improved and look pretty spectacular.

Some of the cinematic sequences will truly wow you.

Infinity Ward has put together quite the cast of talented voice actors and it makes the experience that much more immersive.

That’s enough about the campaign though!

The aspect of the game that will interest most people is the action-packed multi-player.

There is never a dull moment!

There is a whole slew of modes to enjoy including team deathmatch, free-for-all, a ground war, domination, capture the flag, and the all-new cage match.

Personally, I enjoy Team Death-match the most.

You’ll lose track of time as you get acquainted with the multi-player maps and level up.

As you level up, you unlock new scopes and attachments for your weapons.

This proves to be very fun and exciting and you’ll find yourself saying “Just 17 more headshots and I unlock the Blue Tiger camo!”

My personal favorite is the Barrett 50- cal sniper rifle with a thermal scope and a silencer.

Nothing could be more satisfying than taking down your opponent without them having the slightest idea where you’re at.

I think that the campaign and the multi-player are equally fun.

The campaign takes you through a cinematic experience that feels like an intense summer action film.

The multi-player allows you to play alongside friends and complete objectives.

It works incredibly well on Xbox Live and it’s a lot of fun to chat with your teammates on a headset.

You can try to go into battle strategically this way.

There aren’t really any drawbacks that come to mind.

Sometimes you’ll run into the occasional filthy-mouthed teenager on Live but it’s nothing a little muting can’t take care of.

Occasionally there will be a little connection trouble when a host of a game drops or there is too much lag but this doesn’t happen very often.

If you enjoy first-person shooters, you simply have to get this game.

The learning curve isn’t too steep but it presents quite the challenge as you pit your skills against the living, breathing opponents on multi-player.

What are you waiting for?

Go out and pick this one up!

I’ll see you in the ranks!
