Xlear Xylitol

I received this product for free from the sponsor of the Moms Meet program, May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms Meet blogger, I agree to use this product and post my opinion on my blog. My opinions do not necessarily reflect the opinions of May Media Group LLC or the manufacturer of this product.

I am a believer in Xylitol. My family has used it for three years and the difference it has made in our overall health has amazed. Ask your dentist about xylitol and xylital products as I am certain he loves it as much as me.

What is Xylitol?

Xylitol is a naturally occurring sugar alcohol that is commonly used as a sugar substitute. It is found in small amounts in many fruits and vegetables and is extracted for commercial use primarily from birch wood. Xylitol has gained popularity as a sweetener because it has a similar taste and sweetness to sugar but with fewer calories and a lower impact on blood sugar levels.

One of the reasons xylitol is used as a sugar substitute is its dental benefits. It does not promote tooth decay like regular sugar does, and it can help reduce the risk of cavities. Xylitol inhibits the growth of bacteria in the mouth, particularly a type of bacteria called Streptococcus mutans, which is known to contribute to dental caries.

Xylitol is also used in various processed foods, chewing gums, candies, and oral healthcare products like toothpaste, mouthwash, and sugar-free gum. It is considered safe for consumption in moderate amounts for most people. However, some individuals may experience digestive side effects, such as bloating or diarrhea, if consumed in excessive quantities.

It’s worth noting that xylitol is highly toxic to dogs. Ingesting even small amounts of xylitol can cause a rapid release of insulin in dogs, leading to a dangerous drop in blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia), liver failure, and potentially death. Therefore, it is important to keep xylitol-containing products away from dogs and other pets.

The Benefits of Xylitol

Xylitol offers several potential benefits when used as a sugar substitute or included in oral care products.

Here are some of the key benefits associated with xylitol:

  1. Dental health: Xylitol has been shown to inhibit the growth of the bacteria Streptococcus mutans, which is a major contributor to tooth decay. By reducing the bacteria’s ability to stick to teeth and form plaque, xylitol can help prevent cavities and promote better oral health.
  2. Low glycemic index: Xylitol has a low glycemic index, which means it has a minimal impact on blood sugar levels. It is metabolized slowly and does not cause a significant increase in blood glucose or insulin levels. This makes it a suitable sugar substitute for people with diabetes or those who need to manage their blood sugar levels.
  3. Reduced calorie content: Xylitol has fewer calories than regular sugar, containing about 2.4 calories per gram compared to 4 calories per gram in sugar. It can be used as a lower-calorie alternative for people looking to reduce their overall calorie intake.
  4. Suitable for individuals with certain dietary restrictions: Xylitol is a suitable sweetener for individuals following specific diets, such as those with diabetes, low-carb diets, or individuals who are sensitive to gluten or have lactose intolerance. It provides a sweet taste without affecting blood sugar levels or containing gluten or lactose.
  5. No contribution to tooth decay: Unlike regular sugar, xylitol does not promote tooth decay. Instead, it helps create an oral environment that is less favorable for bacteria growth and plaque formation, reducing the risk of cavities.

It’s important to note that while xylitol has several potential benefits, it should be consumed in moderation. Excessive intake of xylitol can lead to digestive issues like bloating and diarrhea, particularly when consumed in large quantities. As with any food or ingredient, it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare professional or dentist for personalized advice based on your specific health circumstances.

Xlear Nasal Spray

Are you a mouth breather? Do you suffer from allergies?

Xlear is a soothing nasal spray that helps to alleviate congestion due to allergies, cold, flu, and sinusitis. It does this by being much more hyperosmotic than a traditional saline nasal spray and also by incorporating xylitol, a natural product that has been shown to decrease bacterial adherence in the nose.

When used twice a day, Xlear nasal spray not only hydrates the sinuses and nasal passages but it also helps to wash away airborne contaminants and pollutants that lead to many common upper respiratory problems.

Unlike many prescription or medicated sprays with unwanted side effects, daily usage of Xlear Nasal Spray is non-addictive and will not damage tissues.

One 1.5 oz. container of Xlear Nasal Spray retails for $14.99 and will last 2-3 months with daily use.

The Xlear Nasal Spray Economy Pack contains three .75 oz. squeeze bottles and retails for $18.99.

Studied extensively for more than 40 years its benefits continued to be discovered.

Research supports the use of xylitol to prevent tooth decay and cavities. It works because the nasty bacteria and yeast in our mouths can’t metabolize xylitol – as they do sugar – so they aren’t able to create the lactic acid that attacks our teeth. Therefore, fewer of these decay-causing bacteria rest on the tooth’s surface over time, leading to LESS plaque formation and LESS cavities.

I had the honor of hearing Trisha O’Hehir speak about close your mouth and breathe through your nose. It  made me pause to think about how oxygen deprived my body was and that  my nasal passages needed help and how my children breathe.

Not only does xylitol starve bacteria in your mouth, but it enhances mineral absorption to actually strengthen your teeth. Research has determined that the sooner children are given xylitol, the stronger and healthier their mouths and teeth are–but it’s never too late to start!
