Pine Bros. Softish Throat Drops Offer Relief Review

It started in 1870, back with Ulysses S. Grant was President of the United States with a population of 39 million. J. Herman Pine, along with his brother, hung out a confectionery shingle on Eighth Street above Walnut in Philadelphia. Here they sold what they called “Pine Brothers Glycerine Tablets.”
Created in an attempt to relieve his own sore throat and those of his family members, the former German confectionery makers combined the soothing natural qualities of glycerin with the healing properties of gum acacia, some natural flavoring, and a touch of sweetener yielded a softish throat drop.
“I have discovered something which will give quick throat relief to thousands afflicted as I was. Perhaps, I won’t make much money out of this, but I will make people happy, and that’s more important than money.” Wrote Pine regarding his discovery.
It was a humble statement considering the softish throat drops would become one of the world’s most successful, most delicious, and most unique throat lozenges.
The company was sold to The Life Savers Company in 1930. From there, it was resold a number of times, with each sell and cost cuts, the recipe was altered. Then, the creator of Airborne, Victoria Knight-McDowell, acquired Pine Bros. Softish Throat Drops and brought the product back to natural products.

This season  Natural Honey and Wild Cherry are Pine Bros. recently released flavors with  Lemon-Citrus & Licorice coming soon!

As my family tried these throat drops, my husband couldn’t stop commenting that the primary ingredient is glycerin. It’s an entirely natural product. We were fascinated by the texture. It’s not as soft as say a gummy worm, but it is far softer than a conventional cough drop. More like a stale Dot in texture.

I prefer the Natural Honey, while the kiddos rave about the Wild Cherry.

Overall, the Pine Bros. Softish Throat Drops do soothe. They are flavorful and taste nothing like medicine. They offer a nice relief, and they are unique in their texture.

The flavor is long-lasting…if I can keep from chewing the drops. I really can’t believe I had never heard of these.

We are big fans of the “puck” container. It is small enough to fit nicely in my purse, my husband’s back pocket, or the kiddos coat pocket. We keep one in the cars just in case that tickle finds its way to our throat while we are out and about.
