Finding Kosher-for-Passover Wine
While finding kosher-for-Passover wine is easy, the same cannot be said for spirits like whiskey, which are typically made with grain and therefore not kosher for Passover. Buchsbaum emphasizes that kosher wines are made the same way as non-kosher wines, with the distinction being the handling of the wine by Sabbath-observant Jews. Any kosher-for-Passover wine will have a “P” symbol or “Kosher for Passover” next to the kosher certification on the label.
Serving Tradition: Four Cups of Wine
The tradition of drinking four cups of wine at Passover dinner is tied to the story of Exodus, with each cup symbolizing a point in the narrative. The significance of the number four is often associated with “freedom from exile.” For observant Jews, the wine served must be kosher, indicating that it was handled exclusively by Sabbath-observant Jews.
