Mornings with Jesus

Mornings with Jesus

Every morning I would love to spend a good deal of time in prayer.  Many times though, our mornings begin like most families – chaotically!  The children need breakfast, my husband needs his coffee and a lunch packed, and I have to get the children motivated for our school day.   Even with all of the bustle of the beginning day, I know how important it is to begin my day with God…. even if it is five or ten minutes.

Mornings with Jesus gives me a chance to begin my day in peace.  Each day contains a verse of Scripture from the NIV Bible, a real life story from the author that applies Scripture, and finally a Faith Step, or a way for me to apply the Scripture and the message to my life.  It is truly a beautiful way to begin each day with a mission to evangelize or to reflect on my faith.

I enjoy reading the snippets from Scripture and then realizing how applicable the authors’ stories are to Scripture.  Just in seeing the relationship and how relevant the Bible is to who we are today as it was to people 2,000 years ago, I am awed.  My favorite part is the Faith Step though because no matter what religion or faith we practice, we can all use a little motivation to reflect on our faith and make an impact on someone else’s life.

The publisher writes:  “Be still and know that I am God.” is one of the most beautiful verses from the Bible, but it’s not easy to practice in this busy world. Mornings with Jesus will help you do just that—“be still” in Jesus’ beautiful and powerful presence. For those who are seeking a deeper experience in their relationship with Christ, Mornings with Jesus offers a fresh perspective of who Jesus is (the Healer, the Son of God, the Comforter, the Good Shepherd) and what that means for day-to-day life. With a warm and friendly voice, 365 short devotional writings on the character and teachings of Jesus encourage readers to greet each day by drawing near to Him and inviting His presence into their day. Spend time with Jesus at the beginning of each day and experience His nearness and peace in a new way throughout the year. Each day’s selection includes: • a Bible verse • an entry based on Jesus: His words, miracles, and parables; His wisdom, compassion, and comfort; His mystery, power, divinity, and humanity • a “faith step” that will inspire and challenge readers to apply the day’s message to their lives.”

As St. Valentine’s feast day approaches and we all clamor to spend time with the ones we love, let us not forget the One Who truly loves us and spend time each day getting to know Jesus better.  For it is through Jesus that we come to know God because He is the Way, the Truth, and the Light.  Mornings with Jesus helps us to not only understand how we can be better disciples in Christ, but also how Christ is alive and working in us.

We can accomplish nothing without Christ, so I encourage you to begin your Mornings with Jesus and see the beauty of the world when you look at it as you walk with Jesus.

Mornings with Jesus: Daily Encouragement for your Soul will help you to know the Lord better as you meet with Him every morning!
