I enjoy cooking. It’s how I show my family I love them. It is a language unlike any other. It can be tasted, felt and enjoyed. I’m more adventurous than my husband. I think experiencing new flavors, trying new recipes and stepping off the paved path every once in a while is what builds love.
Recently, I experimented with Aunt Sassy’s Sauces. My dad was here when I opened the first jar. His thought was pour it in a bowl and let’s get some chips. I obliged. Turns out we both, almost simultaneously, thought it tasted like Grandma’s Chili Sauce! We laughed, Grandma has been gone for 25 years and if you read the post on that recipe, you know it took us all these years and had to go to my mom for the recipe! Not to mention, Aunt Sassy’s sauces was founded in 2010, by Leslie, whom I am certain Grandma didn’t know.
Leslie has found childhood memories of the folks in her hometown of Atlanta, Georgia raving about her aunt’s “naughty sauce”. If you’re from the South or been through the South, you know everything there is smothered. Aunt Sassy’s Sauce is the perfect fixin’ for smotherin’ anything as a marinade, BBQ sauce, dipping sauce, and more!
Aunt Sassy passed away, leaving Leslie the famous “naughty sauce” recipe. While Leslie’s opted to keep the recipe a secret, she’s sharing the delicious sauce with the world!
While the mission behind Aunt Sassy’s Sauces is to transform food and lives through amazing taste, sassy style, charitable giving and grow a successful sauce company, my mission was to create something more than chip dip with it.
I summoned the gourmet chef in me as I threw four chicken breasts into the crock-pot, dumped a jar of Aunt Sassy’s Sauce over the top, covered and went about my business. Okay, so I’m not in the league of Iron Chef, but easy is sometimes better than a title!
The house was filling with an aroma so delicious every child in it asked, “Mom! What’s for dinner?” and I visited Aunt Sassy’s Sauces Charities page. I was impressed to learn that the company gives 10% of all sales to charity and the best part is, you can decide which charity they work with. It’s a voting system currently, where you can vote once per day and invite your friends to do the same! Just think while Aunt Sassy is tempting your tastebuds and filling your belly, a piece of that delciousness is being used to help others.
When I told my kiddos that we were inviting Aunt Sassy’s Sauce to dinner, they giggled. The name is hilariously fun for them to say. They guffawed at the logo, which is so cute! Everything about this company is fun.
I was surprised at just how versatile Aunt Sassy’s Sauces are–on top of ice cream even! Check out the Sassy Recipes page and see for yourself just how well this versatile sauce fits into your menu!
With our bottles of Aunt Sassy’s Sauce came this recipe:
Oh Nuts!
- 2 c. pecans
- 2 T. Aunt Sassy’s Slightly Naughty Sauce (we like Cracked Black Pepper the best)
- 1/4 c. brown sugar
- 3/4 t. fine grain sea salt
- 1/2 t. cinnamon
- Preheat oven to 300F.
- Toss nuts with the sauce till well covered.
- Add brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon, and coat thoroughly.
- Spread nuts onto a parchment-covered baking sheet, separating them as much as possible.
- Bake 30 to 35 minutes, occasionally stirring to allow even baking. Nuts should no longer be wet and should appear toasted.
- Cool slightly on the pan, then remove parchment to a cool surface to cool completely.
- Store in an airtight container for a week or so.
One bite, and they all called “dibs” on seconds.
So while I may not be in the running for Iron Chef, I can throw down a mighty tasty pulled chicken sandwich–with the help of Aunt Sassy!
You can thank me later. ;)
