Homemade Herbes de Provence Seasoning Recipe

Herbes de Provence is a seasoning blend that evokes the warm, vibrant flavors of the French Riviera. It’s a seasoning blend that contains thyme, rosemary, savory, tarragon, and basil. It can be used in vegetables, pork, carrots, beef, soups, lamb, and dishes containing one or more individual spices.

New England Clam Chowder is one of my favorite foods when the weather turns blustery. My favorite recipe is an elevated New England Clam Chowder that is rich, creamy and chunky. One of the key ingredients is the Herbes de Provence.

Despite its name, Italian seasoning is an American creation, while Herbes de Provence comes from a region of France named Provence.

Except for basil, Herbes de Provence uses most of the same ingredients found in Italian seasoning, with the addition of lavender flowers.

Herbes de Provence features the herbs naturally grown in the South of France, while Italian seasoning includes the herbs most often used in Italian cuisine.

Thyme and Rosemary are the dominant flavors in Herbes de Provence.

Lavender isn’t historically part of the blend, but it adds a great taste that complements the other herbs.

Studies have revealed that this powerful herb can reduce inflammation and swelling, has anti-aging properties, and is rich in antioxidants.

Thyme is also thought to lower blood pressure, and boost the immune system due to its high level of Vitamin C!
