Extending Entertaining Space Outdoors with TruGreen

“I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for TruGreen. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.”

It’s about time for us to come into spring. The winter snow is fading and around my neighborhood I”m hearing lawn mowers. Walks through the neighborhood have me visiting with neighbors completing landscapes. It’s time for us all to prepare for our springtime routines.  Right now is the time to address the culprits that corrupt our lawn…weeds. It’s a great time to provide our lawns with nutrients to keep our lawns looking their best so we can enjoy the warm days, spending them outdoors with our friends and family.

For my family, we open the doors and the outdoors becomes an extension of our home. It increases our living space and adds an element to our entertaining. Our back porch becomes our entertainment center where we picnic, BBQ, fill water balloons and just sit and relax. It’s comforting to look across our lawn and watch our children doing summersaults and cartwheels. It’s late night games of croquet and movies projected on a white sheet as we kick back beneath the stars.

We all want a beautiful, healthy green lawn, free from brown and bare spots. Getting to the lawn of our dreams can be challenging as we seek the proper maintenance techniques.

During the winter, we have tackled the ice and snow with fertilizer, rather than salt. It melted the snow and ice and added nutrients to the soil so our grass came in healthy and didn’t have to fight through the salt corrosion. I thought it was a great trick that a neighbor taught me years ago when I commented on how quickly their lawn reflected the beauty of spring, but sometimes word of mouth leads you down the wrong path. Mom Central reached out and clarified this ‘trick’: “Using fertilizer to melt snow goes against the directions for use on the package. That practice can potentially lead to excess fertilizer in local water sources.”

We love the fun backyard design tips to create a space that’s all yours. Sitting on the patio enjoying a fire pit and doing nothing but relaxing or grilling dinner. It’s all part of what we love to do!
