Save When You Shop with Wal-Mart’s Savings Catcher

Wal-Mart Savings Catcher might be the answer to anyone looking to save money. There was a time in my life when I committed a lot of time cutting coupons from the paper, printing coupons, sorting coupons, going through weekly ads and creating my grocery list. Life got in the way and saving money started to take up more time than I felt I was saving.

Walmart’s Savings Catcher does the work for me on my weekly trip for groceries. Savvy shoppers-Mart. We all know WalMart has built a reputation for matching competitor’s advertised sale prices at the checkout…and heaven forbid if you’ve ever found yourself in line behind the customer who has all the competitor’s ads and is flipping through the pages…there’s a new bargain hunter in town, and it’s me and the Savings Catcher app.

Buh-bye legwork, hello savings. Simply download the Wal-Mart Shopping app from Apple’s App Store, Google Play or the Wal-Mart website, then go shopping like normally do at Wal-Mart. When you’re done, scan your receipts using the app.

From there Wal-Mart’s Savings Catcher compares what you bought with its competitors’ sale prices. If it finds a lower price, it lets you put the difference between that price and what you paid on an electronic Wal-Mart gift card.

It’s not instantaneous; it takes up to three business days to tell you whether you’re getting any money back. There is a limit of seven receipts per week.

The app mostly compares grocery and health and beauty items, so that new TV for Super Bowl probably isn’t’ going to do much. Store brand items aren’t compared. It varies on what you buy.

I’ve shopped twice, and I am still waiting for the app to compare between 157 locations. My receipts were small, one for $50 and one for $25.  I’ve gone back and forth with myself on whether the wait will be worth it, but then I think that if it finds something, no matter how small, I didn’t have to do much of anything, aside from scan my receipt, which took literally 10 seconds. I do keep looking at my smartphone, and a couple of times I’ve shaken it–I guess I’m living in a world of “now” with technology and Savings Catcher just isn’t instant.

I do like that the money I save can be stored on an e-gift card and doesn’t expire. The savings could add up and be a helper for holiday shopping.

Next time you shop, there may be savings hiding in your Walmart receipt.

Have you used Walmart Savings Catcher? Try it out and share the buzz, it’s that easy!
