Gearing Up for Our MegaBloks Party with Recipes

First, my kiddos love to build with Megabloks.  The Ballerina got her first set almost six years ago, and not a day goes by when someone is not building some new robot, animal, car, or tower.  Second, I am itching to have a party.  My husband and I celebrated our tenth anniversary in September, and I wanted to throw a party then, but morning sickness and lethargy won the battle.  Finally, St. Nicholas Day is around the corner, my three-year old is making new friends, and I thought it would be great fun to throw a party for the littler kiddos we know.

I am infusing all three ideas to throw a MEGA Megabloks party for all of our preschool friends!

First, I need an invitation.  I think this one will do nicely:

Next, I need to plan on food and party activities.  I coached MESS’s soccer team this fall, and entertaining three-year-olds is like trying to herd cats.  We need LOTS of things to keep these little ones busy!

What about this recipe?  It sounds easy enough for a busy mom to put together.

Mega Munch

Ingredients:

• 5 cups of Corn Bran or Chex cereal

• 1 ½ cups of pretzels

• 1/3 cup of butter or regular margarine, melted

• ½ teaspoon salt

• 1 cup of raisins or dried fruit

• 1 cup chocolate chips or M&M candies

Directions: (Preheat oven to 325° F)

1. Combine cereal, pretzels and nuts in a 13x9x2-inch baking pan.

2. In a bowl, stir melted butter and salt together. Pour over cereal mixture, tossing gently until well coated.

3. Bake at 325 F for 25 minutes, stirring once or twice. Spread in a large shallow pan or on foil to cool before mixing in remaining ingredients.

4. Serve to your Mega Kids!

I don’t know if that one will last an hour at our house with hungry kiddos – I better make two batches!

Since it will be lunch time when all of these little people arrive, I am planning on lunch; however, I think it would be more fun if the three year olds make their own lunch!

Build-A-Sandwich and Snack Bar

Ingredients:

• Peanut butter & jelly

• Turkey or Ham and Cheese

• Condiments (mayo, mustard, butter, cream cheese etc.)

• Bread

• Feel free to add variations

Directions:

1. Put sandwich ingredients in bowls and label as building material.

2. Example: peanut butter/condiments as cement, jelly as gravel, bread as the foundation.

or if they are like my MESS and don’t like sandwiches, I’ll have a cheese and cracker option available:

Cracker Tower

Ingredients:

• Snack Crackers

• Cheese Slices

 Directions:

1. Place crackers and cheese on plates.

2. Let children stack several layers to build their own “Mega” towers.

And lastly, RIGHT BEFORE THE PARTY ENDS, I am going to be the best mommy host ever and serve ICE CREAM!

A “MEGA” Sundae Bar

Ingredients:

• ½ gallon vanilla or chocolate ice cream

• Variety of toppings (including your favorites we may have missed):

– Fresh fruit

– Chocolate chips

– Crushed crème filled chocolate cookies

– M&M’s

– Chocolate syrup

– Whipped Cream

Directions:

1. Place each fruit and the chocolate chips separate bowls.

2. Place one scoop of ice cream in a bowl.

3. Allow children get to build their “MEGA” sundae.

Bwwaaa-haa-haaa! Am I evil or what?!  I’ll post some of the games we are planning to play at the party next week.  We’re going to have a MEGA good time at our Megabloks party!

In the meantime, feel free to join the Mega Bloks Family Club to receive coupons, learn about new products and lots more!

Lauralee Saad loves homeschooling her three kiddos: Ballerina, age 8, Big Boy, age 6, and MESS, age 3.  She enjoys sewing when she can find a spare corner to set up her machine and dig out fabrics, cooking and baking – especially if the kiddos are helping, and enjoying a good book after the kiddos have gone to bed.  She is thrilled to be welcoming a baby girl into the family in March of 2012.
