The Wonder of Your Love #Book Review

I’ve been introduced to the Amish in many forms and now Beth Wiseman, delights me with her fiction work, The Wonder of Your Love.  It delivers a Christian message with some great The Wonder of Your Love by Beth Wisemanwriting. Wiseman is detailed enough to ignite the setting into my imagination. This is the second book in the series, and while I admit I didn’t read the first, Seek Me With All Your Heart, I found The Wonder of Your Love to be a good read.

The Wonder of Your Love seems taboo in an Amish world. It has infidelity, travel and single moms. While I liked the main character, Katie Ann, I think had I read the first book in the series first, I would have loved her and understood more of her struggles.

This book tackles Katie Ann’s husband, Ivan’s, infidelity and it shows the Amish women working their way to terms with this.

While I am not Amish, nor do I pretend to be, one thing about this book that  left a bitter taste in my mouth is when Katie Ann determines that her friend, Martha, should join the Amish community stating that it was the “only way”. I am not a fan of any religion that declares this. I think we are all different and believe there is one God and He is there for everyone, regardless of your religion.

One of the points that I truly liked about this book is that the Amish Community Katie Ann is part of expands the idea that Amish people are found in only one place. I loved the thought that they are in communities everywhere.

Note: This book touches on adultery but does not go into physical detail, just past sins.

About the book:

Katie Ann lost the love of her life. Then God offers her a new beginning in Colorado .

Katie Ann Stolzfus lives in the small Amish community of Canaan , Colorado . At forty she is widowed and raising her first child. But baby Jonas will never know his father, and Katie Ann wonders if her Heavenly Father hasn’t forgotten about her as well. Is it really God’s plan for her to be a single parent?

Eli Detweiler has come to Canaan for a wedding and a long vacation. Having raised six children following the death of his young wife, Eli is finally an empty-nester. He’s enjoying the slower pace of having no one to care for but himself.

When Katie Ann and Eli meet, there is an instant connection. Yet as strong as the attraction is, they both acknowledge that a romance would never work. He is done parenting, while she has just begun.

But as their friendship slowly blossoms into feelings that are as frightening as they are intoxicating, Katie Ann and Eli question if the plans they made for themselves are in line with God’s plans.

Can Katie Ann entrust her heart to another man, and rediscover the wonder of God’s love?
