You Can Do with Your Child

Sometime in the mid-1990s I gave 365 TV Free Activities You Can Do With Your Child as baby shower gifts and birthday presents. I found great value in it and felt it was worthy of sharing. Now, Steve and Ruth Bennett launch 101 Offline Activities You Can Do With Your Child.

It doesn’t seem that long ago when technology didn’t hold us captive. Now everyone is plugged into something–the TV, the internet, digital this, digital that. It’s hard to put away. The Bennett’s bring back old-fashioned fun. I was up for the challenge of unplugging and reconnecting to the people that live at my house. Plus they’re activities that I don’t have to put planning and prep work into to yield a good result.

Whether the book is read in one day or broken down into activity, 101 Offline Activities You Can Do With Your Child has something for any family. Broken down into picture topics at the beginning for easy reference there’s a lot of opportunities here for even the pickiest kiddos. On the Road, Out and About, Any Time/Any Place, Adventure Treks, Indoor Treasure Hunts, Alphabet Game, Physical Activities, Educational Activities, and more.

We loved Activity 51, More Than Meets the Eye (page 102). The challenge is to describe the world to an imaginary friend. We pretended our friend was from another planet and then did it again with a “friend” from another time period. It was great hearing my children describe everyday items around them and they did it with such compassion for their “friend” that it was truly heart-warming.

This is a great book to keep in the car for those longer trips or short errands running. It’s perfect as a boredom buster and to get the kiddos to unplug.
