Who is Ted Bundy?

Ted Bundy was a Serial Killer

I need to get something out in the open. It’s been on my mind and it needs to be said.

First, allow me to give you a brief summary of what has brought us here, to this post. I have read a lot of books about Serial Killers…many of them from my high school era. One of the Serial Killers I have followed was Ted Bundy. My dad’s best friend then married the girl, Carol DaRonch, Ted Bundy had tried to abduct from Fashion Place Mall in Murray, Utah. She was a key in the case that lead to the fact that Bundy drove a blue Volkswagen.

My dad works at a High School. Before school let out for Summer Break, he overheard some girls talking and one of them said, “He said my boyfriend reminded him of Ted Bundy. Like I know who Ted Bundy is?!”

And so, People, we are here…this post.

Since my dad and I had this conversation, I have wondered if I am really THAT old? Am I so old that Ted Bundy has vanished in the changing of the calendar? It’s a frightening thought! Then my thoughts shifted and I am of the firm belief that regardless of how old I am, everyone, especially young women should know who Ted Bundy was–a serial killer.

Definition of a Serial Killer: A serial killer is a person who murders three or more people, usually due to abnormal psychological gratification, with the murders taking place over more than a month and including a significant break (a “cooling off period”) between them.

Those two words: Serial Killer–pretty much sum it all up, however, the reasons I believe girls should NEVER forget WHO Ted Bundy was is because Serial Killers don’t have those words tattooed to their forehead (smart ones don’t anyway). They don’t necessarily wear trench coats and saunter around small towns in dreary weather.

Ted Bundy was intelligent. He earned a scholarship to Stanford University. He was a Psychology Major and excelled in college. Did you know he profiled his victims which made profiling him far more difficult? Did you know that Ted Bundy was one of the first profiling cases conducted by the FBI?

Ted Bundy was handsome. He wasn’t maimed (he just WORE the cast as part of the lure, Girls). He was striking and blended well within the visuals of society.

Ted Bundy was LETHAL. He is one of the most prolific serial killers in US History.

He is the true-life character who influenced the characters of both Buffalo Bill and Hannibal Lecter. Yes. Hannibal Lecter from Silence of the Lambs.

Let’s not forget the lessons that Serial Killers wear the disguise of “ordinary”. They can be handsome, intelligent, and seemingly innocent.

It was an article on CNN about Jordan van der Sloot and his attorney resigning, that made me think again about Ted Bundy. The difference, Jordan van der Sloot was not nearly as careful and calculated as Ted Bundy.

Parents, please give your children the answer to Who is Ted Bundy?

My husband says the lack of knowledge stems from a decline in serial killers, “Now it’s just men killing their wives” Do you agree?
