A Bear, A Mouse, and a Sleep Over
Li’l Man is a stickler for routine. He is unlike any child I have ever encountered. He has ALWAYS been like this. If we leave our driveway and turn left instead of our customary right he demands to know why? We went on vacation and he was all about it until he learned a hotel meant he was NOT sleeping in HIS bed. It’s been a challenge to accommodate him and the art of negotiations at our house has become an art. Kudos to Bonny Becker for capturing the entertainment of routine in her book, A Bedtime for Bear (published by Candlewick Press).
In this delightful children’s book, a mouse comes to spend the night with his friend, Bear. Bear must have absolute quiet when he goes to bed. He has a routine that he must always follow: set out a glass of water, adjust his nightcap, fluff his pillow, and then it’s time to drift off to dreamland.
Mouse on the other hand breaks the expression, “quiet as a mouse” as bedtime becomes a hilarious progression of interruption.
I found myself laughing out loud as the book progressed. Even as I knew what was going to take place I found it delightful and then the book took a turn that had me in stitches and the children wide-eyed and eager to see how it all played out.
Check out A Bedtime for Bear and discover what happens when two friends with different bedtime routines try and spend a night together. It’s serious fun!
