Keep Kids Hydrated with Kids Basix Safe Sporter Water Bottle #Review

At Kid Basix, they started a revolution when they rethought the sippy cup and created the Safe Sippy™ no-spill bottle from clean, non-leaching stainless steel. But while BPA-free products are still important to parents, the world is changing. Safety, value, the environment – they are all important now. And Kid Basix will continue to be at the forefront of that conversation as we !rethink: EVERYTHING.

When we bought our car, I swear one of the *hidden* features was an “I’m thirsty!” button that is pushed when one of my children has to sit longer than 5 minutes.  A 16-ounce bottle of water costs about $2.00; multiply by three kiddos PLUS the aggravation of finding a place to purchase said water.   I tried the mega-packs of water from our local big box, and the kiddos complained it wasn’t cold enough OR there was the incident where dear Hubby threw a hammer in the back of the car puncturing two of the water bottles – what a mess!

I don’t like the plastic bottles that water comes in; it crinkles when the kiddos drink; it is bad for the environment, and, frankly, it is just plain wasteful!  However, I have tried multiple types of drink containers, and my kiddos either do not like them well enough to remember where they left them or my personal favorite, the container falls on the ground and I end up with a soppy mess to clean up because the thing leaked.

Enter Kid Basix Safe Sporter™ sports bottle.  Kid Basix generously sent one for each of my kiddos in three beautiful colors:  Ballerina chose blue, Big Boy chose vibrant yellow, and MESS chose the closest to pink: red!  The kiddos immediately loved them because they are cool looking, the colors are vibrant, AND they have the niftiest mud cap that they could flip open and closed, which helps keep the spout clean when closed and clicks into place against the back of the bottle for fuss-free drinking.

And we cleaned and filled them.  The mouth is nice and wide for easy cleaning AND it is wide enough that I can use the ice maker to fill it with ice.  (Don’t you just hate the bottles that you have to squeeze ice cubes into?!)  The kiddos love the pull spout – even the three-year old can easily open and close the spout.  I think a great feature is the sleeve of the Safe Sporter™; it provides insulation while providing a good grip for my kiddos who tend to drop slippery things!

Since we homeschool, the kiddos have some latitude about getting drinks or taking small breaks, but I have found increased productivity (yep, I’m a slave driver when it comes to school work!) since Ballerina and Big Boy have had their Safe Sporter™ water bottles at the table; perhaps it is due to increased hydration, maybe it’s because we aren’t imitating the kangaroo by jumping up and down all day for drinks.  Either way, I’m a happy mama!

We also take The Safe Sporter™ to our soccer games, PE classes, and ballet lessons.  It is so important for children to learn the importance of drinking water.  On Friday, when we have our co-op classes, we pack our lunches.  I fill the Safe Sporter™ with ice cubes and water and use it as a lunch box ice pack – PERFECT!  The Safe Sporter™ is basically indestructible with its single-walled, non-leaching, antimicrobial, food-grade stainless steel.  This feature also keeps the Safe Sporter™ lightweight and allows more volume for a smaller container.

It costs a quarter penny to fill up our 16-ounce Safe Sporter™ water bottle.  Multiply that by three kiddos, and I have made some moolah by using the Safe Sporter by Kid Basix.

When Baby Girl makes her appearance, I plan on using The Safe Starter™, possibly THE COOLEST looking baby bottle in the world, to supplement her feedings.  Even though it is stainless steel, it has this awesome sleeve that not only marks the ounces, but also keeps the outside temperature neutral (how many of us have ever touched a too-hot bottle?!) PLUS you can heat the bottle like any other bottle as long as the silicone sleeve is on the outside.  WOW!

Kid Basix has a whole line of great environmentally green, family-friendly drinkware for every kiddo in your family from the baby, to the sippy-cup toddler to the little and big kiddos and in a variety of VIBRANT and beautiful colors to suit every kiddo’s personality.  What a great stocking stuffer!

One of the easiest ways to save is to replace your bottled water with reusable, easy to recycle stainless steel water bottles. What kind of savings? Nearly $2000 per year for some families! And consider these other ways we can !rethink: SAVE:

  • Save our oil. One plastic water bottle takes 5 ounces of oil to make. The oil we waste making water bottles every year would power 12 million cars.
  • Save our water. A single plastic bottle can take 2-7 times the amount of liquid that bottle holds just to make the bottle in the first place. Water wasted worldwide every year? Almost one trillion gallons!
  • Save our environment. We recycle less than 15%. The rest end up in landfills, incinerators…or the ocean.

Save $2000 per family and the planet, too? Puts !rethink: SAVE in a whole new light.

Lauralee Saad loves homeschooling her three kiddos: Ballerina, age 8, Big Boy, age 6, and MESS, age 3.  She enjoys sewing when she can find a spare corner to set up her machine and dig out fabrics, cooking and baking – especially if the kiddos are helping, and enjoying a good book after the kiddos have gone to bed.  She is thrilled to be welcoming a baby girl into the family in March of 2012.
