Folk Art Fusion: Creative Ideas for Painting Colorful Folk Art in Acrylics is a great book for anyone looking to paint with acrylics. It teaches the basics of painting folk art subjects in a distinct style that is modern and vibrant, but still the homespun and simplicity for which folk art is known.

For me, I love to paint. I love the beauty of art. One of the things that appeal to me about folk art is that it encompasses a culture in a manner that is rich. Most folk artists are self-taught, as opposed to the fine art artists who go through rigorous formal instruction and training.

I love the works of Vestie Davis, John Rasmussen, and Jennie Richiee. They are rich in color and details that make me want to look at their pictures for hours to see everything.

Folk Art Fusion teaches the reader how to blend classic subjects with new techniques to create unique works of art.

The book is hardcover.

Author and professional artist Heather Galler explores a colorful combination of art styles and presents them step-by-step in her modern folk art paintings. Galler paints with all mediums including oil, acrylic, and mixed media to create a bright, cheerful folk-art painting, ceramic tiles, jewelry, and more. She resides in Austin, Texas, and has been featured on Comedy Central, USA Network, CBS, and Nickelodeon.

Even those new to creating art can follow along easily with this book. It walks you step-by-step through projects that are varied and colorful. Art created with classic subjects including flowers, animals, architecture, sugar skulls, portraits, and more. Projects are also learning to replicate Frida Kahlo (as seen on the cover), Day of the Dead, Maneki Neko, and Russian Nesting Dolls.

It’s a great addition to the creation station toolkit to help spark creativity.
