Sometimes we dream big and let fear hold us back. Take skydiving, for example. It’s on MacKenzie’s bucket list, but the thought of jumping out of a plane? Yeah, that’s a big no. Enter Pigeon Forge, where you can experience the adrenaline rush of skydiving without ever leaving the ground!

The Perfect Rainy Day Adventure

Flyaway Indoor Skydiving offers the thrill of skydiving within the safety of their vertical wind tunnel. Opened as America’s first vertical wind tunnel, this incredible attraction allows you to break free from gravity and soar through the air. Whether it’s raining outside or you’re just in the mood for some excitement, Flyaway Indoor Skydiving is the perfect activity to add to your itinerary.

Getting Started

I’ll admit, the building both inside and out has a bit of a dated look. But let’s be honest, we came here for thrills, not interior design. With slots filling up quickly, it’s wise to make reservations in advance. Flights are scheduled every thirty minutes on the hour and half-hour, ensuring a smooth flow of adventurers eager to take flight.

The Safety Briefing

Before stepping into the wind tunnel, we watched a safety video and reviewed essential hand signals. The tunnel is loud, so instructors rely on these signals to guide you, ensuring you get the most out of your experience while staying safe. The briefing also covered body control techniques and how to fall correctly.

Suiting Up

After the briefing, it was time to gear up. We were provided with a suit, helmet, goggles, gloves, and earplugs. Proper attire is crucial, so remember to bring socks and soft-soled shoes.

The Flight Experience

Once suited up, we joined others to form our group of five, led by an instructor. Each session lasts about 15 minutes, with each participant getting approximately three minutes of fly time. Trust me, those three minutes in the air feel like a lifetime of exhilaration!

From orientation to flight, the entire experience spans about an hour. As our kiddos entered the wind tunnel, we headed to the observation deck. There, we found plenty of windows at various levels to watch the action unfold.

Soaring to New Heights

William was the first of our two to take flight. The instructor guided him using the hand signals they had learned. During the initial flight, participants learned to shape their bodies and relax. On the second round, they practiced using their chest and belly to “bounce” off the floor, initiating flight and performing spins.

MacKenzie’s anticipation grew as she watched others from the observation deck. She expected the wind tunnel to be cool, but it was relatively warm inside. The excellent instructor made the experience unforgettable, guiding each participant through the exhilarating process.
