Through the years, my body has changed.
This is a story how my body betrayed me with a yeast infection and how I fought back for the win with Monistat.
In March, I noticed a lump under my left arm. By April it had festered and was draining. I shrugged it off and carried on.
Then it closed and by June was three lumps, not painful. I learned my dad has leukemia and suddenly terror invaded my mind. It was then I went to a doctor, who prescribed antibiotics.
Seven days later, I had completed my round of antibiotics, still had the lump under my arm. The doctor didn’t seem to think it was anything to be alarmed about, so I tried to keep up with the chaotic comedy I call life.
In September, I told my husband that my underarm was throbbing. As I lifted my arm up to show him, I felt it open. It was oozing like a volcano of puss. It left a hole large enough for a pencil to have slid in and out of. It drained and throbbed.
The next day I was back at the doctor and prescribed the highest dose of antibiotics I had ever taken. The antibiotics made me tired. My underarm throbbed, drained, oozed.
Then it happened. My body rebelled, and I had a yeast infection.
Not a fun topic I know. Yeast infections are horrible. They are embarrassing. They are not a topic women want to discuss and definitely not something any woman wants to have, but you know what, they are common. Common to the point that 3 out of 4 women experience one in their lifetime.
What causes yeast infections? There are many possible causes including:
- antibiotics
- pregnancy
- uncontrolled diabetes
- weak immune system
- poor eating habits (lots of sugary foods)
- hormonal imbalance near your period
- stress
- lack of sleep
Some causes we can avoid through rest and diet, but some people are just prone to get yeast infections. It is something women just can’t seem to avoid.
The itching was unbearable for me. I hadn’t had a yeast infection in years, but I did remember that MONISTAT® gives relief!
When the first signs of a yeast infection pop up:
- itching
- burning
- abnormal discharge
I know to head to the store and purchase MONISTAT®.
