Beaches

Melbourne doesn’t have the beaches of the Gold Coast or even northern New South Wales, but that doesn’t mean that Melbourne beaches aren’t worth exploring. The vibrant Brighton Beach is awash with golden sand to sun yourself on and crisp, cool water to refresh yourself with, and the rock formations on the nearby cliffs are a sight to behold.

St Kilda beach is great for restaurants and bars, as well as more touristy shopping opportunities. Take a stroll down to Elwood beach to experience some wonderful walking tracks and some gorgeous beach vistas, which are a treat for the senses.

National Parks

Melbourne and Victoria have some astounding national parks, and all of them are within driving distance from the CBD. A couple of hours out of Melbourne toward the south-east will take you to the East Warburton Redwood Forest.

This beautiful forest area is a place of quiet tranquility, filled to the brim with beautiful examples of the Giant Sequoia redwood trees of California, planted there after WW2 by returned soldiers. The Dandenong Ranges are also a wonderful place to spend a sunny day, with walking tracks and gorgeous vegetation to explore.

Theatre

The theatre comes on in a big way in summer in Melbourne, and there are musicals setting up this year that you’d hate to miss. Shakespeare’s Globe pop-up theatre is a roaring success in Melbourne at the moment, with many of the playwright’s most famous productions staged in a model of their original surroundings for Melburnians to see and enjoy all summer long.

As well as that, Cirque Du Soleil Toruk is in town, delighting and astounding guests with their Avatar-themed performance for a limited time only.

Markets

Markets are one of the best ways to find trinkets, knickknacks, and buried treasure among the many items for sale. Melbourne has it’s fair share of distinct markets, and summer brings out a whole host of new ones for everyone to enjoy A fantastic example of this is the Blender Artist Market, which allows local artists to sell their pieces and display their art for all to see.

Cricket

Sport may not be for everyone, but if it’s your kind of pastime the Cricket will be returning as always to the MCG this summer, and being the largest sports venue in Australia you know the turnout and subsequent energy will be absolutely astounding this year.

White Night

White night once again takes over the CBD in January, and as always the streets will be flooded with the eager and interested participants from Melbourne City. With street performances, musical acts, light shows, exhibitions and artistic evolutions rushing through the streets, it’s sure to be a great time for any and all involved.

Melbourne Music Week

Melbourne Music Week is nearly upon us, and the musical acts that spread themselves thin throughout the city over the course of the week need to be seen to be believed. There are free and ticketed events available, so any budget can be catered to for this fresh and interesting week of musical wonder.

It’s easy to see why Melbourne’s summers are non-stop fun, so don’t hesitate for a moment in getting down to Melbourne for a wonderful summer.
