I met Heather years ago online. She and I, as strangers, attended a Twitter Party together. Afterwards, she sent me a message telling me she had a Bon Jovi story to share.
Since that conversation five years ago, I’ve come to know Heather. She has an amazing sense of humor, a selfless approach to mothering all eight of her children.
Her husband also cheated on her.
It has been devastating to watch Heather deal with the implosion of her marriage, become a single mom, enter the workforce and try and make ends meet.
On November 28th, she posted the following to her Facebook page:
So. In case ya’ll haven’t noticed, fancy really isn’t my “ish”…however, I do have good taste and know class and style despite my inability to effectively utilize said knowledge. That being said… my FAVORITE accessory I ever owned was my beautiful Burberry scarf. I loved that thing like it was a kid. My girls borrowed it as they pleased because they all took care of it too… It stayed on the post of my bed… and last winter, during the really really bad stuff, it disappeared. Honestly, I blamed the girls. Figured someone forgot it somewhere and was afraid to tell me. And since it was the least of my concerns, I just let it go… well. I know where it is because I just saw her wearing it. LOL. That’s ok honey. You can have all my old used shit. Because I’m starting over with all new. Because I deserve it. And you deserve exactly what you have.
That was all it took for her friends Vanessa and Brooke to take action.
The two set up a hysterical Go Fund Me page to try and raise $500 to replace Heather’s beloved Burberry scarf. They explained the backstory of Heather and her “WASband” Joe and let folks know Heather’s doing well on her own.
Fast forward about a year. Heather is moving on. Got a tattoo, got herself a great job, another kid has graduated high school and she might even be able to finally take a proper trip to Mexico next year to help celebrate Vanessa’s 40th.
Here’s the thing. Heather was the quintessential stay at home mom, complete with all the necessary sacrifices that go along with that. Raising 8 kids is expensive and Heather’s a pretty low-key chick who doesn’t fuss over all that fancy shit that some women do. Except for her one treasured designer item – a Burberry scarf. She shared that scarf with her daughters freely. They wore it because they took good care of it. Then it disappeared.
Turns out Joe – the WASband- gave it to his mistress.
The GoFundMe page exceeded the goal the first day.
Here’s to a little thing called Karma and kick-ass friends!
