The fact that the cold weather is here need not stop you from enjoying some time away from home. Taking everyone on a short trip is a great way of lifting the spirits and having fun together.
Packing the right way to enjoy yourself despite the weather
You just need to make sure that you are adequately prepared for bad weather when you pack. A winter coat is an essential item for wrapping up. Make sure that everyone has one that is at least showerproof and thick enough to keep the wind out. Before you travel, get everyone to try theirs on while wearing a thick jumper or fleece. That way you can make sure that everyone’s coat still fits and allows them enough freedom of movement when they are wearing several layers of clothing. A hat, scarf, and gloves are also a good idea.
Packing the right footwear is essential. Having cold or wet feet is no fun. It also makes it more likely that you will end up picking up a bug and going home feeling worse than you did when you left. Make sure everyone’s shoes or boots are waterproof, have reasonably thick soles and are big enough to wear at least two pairs of socks with.
OK, so now you are ready for anything the weather can throw at you. Now, all you have to do is to decide where to go. Here are a few suggestions.
Enjoy some winter sports in the Alps
The Alps offer some fantastic ski destinations. It would take you decades to visit them all.
This majestic mountain range spans six countries. So, taking a winter break in one of the ski resorts that are nestled amongst them is a wonderful way to experience several different European cultures.
You can find out more about skiing in the Alps, by clicking here. But, you really should start with somewhere like Wengen. This charming traffic-less village has been a skinning Mecca for more than a hundred years. You will love taking the train up to the slopes every day. A visit to the Schilthorn is a must. From this mountaintop hideaway, you can see 40 peaks. It is hardly surprising it was used for a Bond moving. You should also take the train up through the heart of the famous Eiger Mountain. The ice sculptures are great, and the view from the top is stunning.
Visit the big island
If you are looking for a little sun, try Hawaii. This stunning island is becoming increasingly popular with holidaymakers, from across the world.
A little Caribbean charm
After the terrible hurricanes of 2017, many tourists, understandably, stayed away from destinations like the British Virgin Islands. The repair work there is still ongoing. But, gradually the resorts are re-opening. This year, many of them are offering special packages to tempt visitors back.
If you prefer to wait another year before visiting the BVI head instead to Trinidad & Tobago or the Turks & Caicos, at the moment, they represent fantastic value for money.
A winter city break
During the winter months, most cities are a lot quieter. As a result, the prices are lower and the queues shorter. There are plenty of options. You could head to one of the European cities like Rome, Vienna or Venice. Or, somewhere bigger like London, Madrid, Quebec or New Orleans.
