One of the many things moms do on a daily basis, besides working and taking care of their family and themselves, definitely is running the whole household which involves cooking. While preparing food can be a fun activity, once it turns into a chore, it’s hard to keep it interesting.
This is particularly apparent after you’ve already developed a routine schedule and a set of meals you prepare basically all the time. In times like these in life, whether it’s about cooking, working or spending your free time, the answer is always the same – change.
Clearly, we cannot constantly change everything in our lives, like things we do, but luckily, we can change the way we do them, and that’s where we should put our focus. Try to add an artistic touch to all your routine jobs, think of different ways to do them and do everything in your power to make it as interesting as you can. In that respect, take a look at this list of things you can do to help yourself stay amused in your own kitchen.
Fun for the entire family
It’s always more fun to do dull things with company, like folding your clothes while drinking coffee with your friend. Not only will the company help with dealing with the boring parts, but it would make it a great time for bonding. You could also use this opportunity to spend some more time with your kids while teaching them responsibility and cooking skills. Plus, what may seem like a boring job for you, might be super fun for your kids or your husband. All in all, it’s a great way to multitask and enjoy yourself.
Turn the music up
Music is known to be a mood amplifier and therefore, should be used to your own advantage. Why would you just chop some ingredients and wait for the oven to finish its work or stir endlessly while thinking how bored you are at that very moment? Instead, crank up some of your favorite uplifting music and just let go. Sing, dance and cook to the rhythm of the music and act like nobody’s watching. Not only it’s a great mood changer, but a form of physical exercise, as well.
Make it Fun and Easy
If you want to make things more dynamic, one of the best things you can do is get yourself some outside motivation, and by that, we mean some sort of a kitchen gadget.
Get yourself a new cool egg-peeler, fruit and veggie squeezer, fancy random shape cutter or anything you’d love to have, and that would make you feel better while cooking.
Some of the things that truly make lives easier such as a great mixer, oven or a dishwasher should also be considered. I personally was reborn once I got the amazing Electrolux dishwasher. Doing the dishes has always been my most hated kitchen chore.
When it comes to selecting kitchen stuff like kitchen sinks & faucets, style is secondary, but durability and quality are the primary needs.
Sometimes we complicate our lives without any reason. Sure, we all like to do well and make our loved ones happy, and therefore we try to make them all these fancy meals that take a lot of time and effort when instead we can just make a salad and place some meat in the pan and roll with it.
Let’s face it – no one has three perfectly tasting meals a day. It’s just impossible. We need to have average or bad meals in order to appreciate the good ones. Of course, this doesn’t mean you should start preparing bad food, but merely that you could prepare something simple and undemanding and it can still taste great.
Another aspect of the whole thing is that you want to be a role model for your kids and that doesn’t always mean having to be perfect, but teaching your kids to “wing it” sometimes and not to obsess over little things.
All in all, there are ways to have fun while cooking and as long as you choose to try hard to succeed in that mission, it has good chances of going well. Simply, once you diagnose yourself a case of boredom when it comes to a subject, change something. It doesn’t have to be big, but it will still be efficient enough, so you could lose that horrible feeling of boredom and uselessness when it comes to doing daily chores.
