If you know MacKenzie, she is all things Taylor Swift, so it didn’t surprise me when she Facetimed me from college the night we dropped her off from Thanksgiving break to share that she and her roommate had JUST made Taylor Swift Chai Cookie Recipe and they had a hack.
Record-Setting Midnights Album or not, these chai sugar cookies have been super popular since that September Taylor Swift Tumblr post.
Soft, buttery cookies with plenty of sugar and spice? Taylor Swift’s chai cookies are sure to be just as popular as she is.
“Mom, there were so many ingredients in her recipe, and we are in college! But we wanted to try them, so we did a hack!”
She paid attention growing up and knew there were sugar cookie mixes.
Sugar Cookies are a classic; the cookie mix means no storage or measuring of all the ingredients.
It’s a quick and easy way to make cookies: mix, drop, and bake for a delicious cookie day or night.
Prepared cookie mixes offer endless options whether you go for the classic way the package offers or put your spin on it, like MacKenzie and her roommate.
Plus, they are usually a Box Tops for Education participating product to help give back to schools.
They mixed them by hand in the community kitchen.
Everyone coming down the hall was commenting on how good it smelled.
They opted to make 12 large cookies, but 24 smaller cookies worked too.

Just like Taylor Swifts:
“There are two ways you can go about this,” Taylor Swift wrote. “The quick and easy way is to make sugar cookies from a sugar cookie mix and just cut open a packet of chai tea and pour it into the batter as you make it. Cause you’re busy and want making cookies to be a chill part of your day. Pow. Done. OR If you want to make the cookies from scratch (that’s what I did for the 1989 Secret Sessions), you can use this recipe I found on a baking blog I like, joythebaker.com, and I believe it was originally from a book called The Pastry Queen. If you want another great baking blog, I get a lot of great ideas from smittenkitchen.com too. This is a recipe for basic, insanely good sugar cookies. I added the chai element to the recipe because I thought it would infuse cozy holiday vibez into the cookie, and it really did.”
