I received Tales of Shakespeare: Hamlet in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own.
Shakespeare seems to live on through his timeless writing. Hamlet is among my favorite of his works. Shakespeare can be difficult to read. It can be challenging to interpret for a young reader. Author
I found the translation to be well done and my children enjoyed a glimpse into Shakespeare. Knapman keeps the storyline true to the original with a language update. He does a great job at taking the violence of Hamlet and making it palatable for young readers.
This book holds true to the theme Shakespeare followed–tragedy. There was still the mystery and schemes unwinding. I really enjoyed reading this and sharing it with my children. The illustrations capture the characters and bring the story to life.
A fun fact is that Hamlet is Shakespeare’s longest plays and considered one of the most influential and powerful tragedies in English literature. It was one of the most popular of his works during his lifetime and continues to be a favorite.
