Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this blog post. The opinions I share are my own.
My family looks forward to certain shows, among our favorites is Supergirl. I think it resonates with my children because they are the same age as Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) when she was sent to Earth from planet Krypton by her parents. Her mother Alura (Laura Benanti) instructed her to protect her infant cousin Kal-El, and share that, like her cousin, she would have amazing powers under Earth’s yellow sun.
And so our addiction began.
Night after night we gathered to watch the series.
Kara had a few hiccups in her travels. Her spacecraft was diverted by a shock wave when Krypton exploded, that forced her into a Phantom Zone where time stopped for 24 years. When her spacecraft escaped the Phantom Zone, she still appeared to be 13-years-old.
Her cousin, Kal-El, had grown up and become Superman. He is the one who took her to be adopted by his friends, the Danvers family.
We tune in more than a decade later, and was Kara reveal her powers to thwart a disaster. Her mother was a judge on Krypton and many of the criminals she prosecuted on Krypton now hide on Earth, including her mother’s twin sister Astra and her husband Non. The two want to rule the world.
Supergirl: The Complete First Season is available on Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital HD so there’s no excuse. Start catching up now!
“Supergirl” season 2 premieres Monday, October 10 on The CW. The internet is buzzing that Lynda Carter, who played my childhood hero Wonder Woman, will have an appearance in Season 2 as the President of the United States.
