When the daffodils bloom, it’s time to start Spring Cleaning. At my house, it’s a housework marathon–refreshing rooms after a long, stuffy winter. Did you know Spring cleaning originated back when homes had no electricity, and were heated by fireplaces? They’d stuff nooks and crannies to prevent heat from escaping. Spring meant cleaning the home of the soot and grime that built up during winter.
While we’re more modern now, Spring is still the time to let in the fresh air, move the furniture and reach back into the corners. It’s time to be more active and celebrate the opportunity to be outdoors.
Jillian Harris has dirty little secret when it comes to cleaning–Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, It’s the tool that lets you clean smart, not hard. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser brings the muscle so you don’t have to, for a spring clean that saves you time and effort.
Start from the top
I started with the ceiling fan. It’s old. The blades need to be painted, but I’m only here to clean.
Polish up the Cookware.
I bake through the winter. My cookie sheet gets used it a lot. It bakes cookies, sits under pies and it my go-to for anything that might be “bubbly” in the oven. It has seen better days, but with Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, I can give it new life. I used Mr. Clean on half the sheet–see the difference?
A few good therapy phone calls with my girlfriends, while I rub a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser in circles and my cookie sheet will sparkle something fierce!
Using dish soap on your cutting boards.
When it comes to wooden chopping blocks, soap and warm water doesn’t always cut it. After using one to slice ‘n dice raw meat or poultry, soak it in a bleach solution to prevent cross-contamination when prepping your next meal.
Neglecting your biggest touch points.
Faucets, handles, and door knobs are some of the most-touched areas in your home —it stands to reason they might also have the germs. I wipe them down with Mr. Clean Magic Erasers to get rid of the grime and then wipe them with a disinfectant wipe daily to keep germs at bay.
Spraying furniture with polish.
When you spray furniture or cabinets directly, it creates a build-up that’s tough to remove and attracts dust and fingerprints. Instead, spray your cloth with the cleaner, then rub the cloth on dusty surfaces.
Wipe Down the Trash Can
That trashcan serves a purpose, but sometimes it has an odor, it might mean you haven’t been cleaning your trash can. Take a moment to wipe it down with a cleaner containing bleach to keep nasty smells under control.
Sanitize dirty sponges.
While we may love the sponge, it won’t, in fact, be that helpful if you don’t sanitize it every few days (and replace them every month). To sanitize, soak your sponge in water, place it in a microwavable dish, then heat it on high for a minute.
Spring Cleaning is therapeutic to me. It helps me rejuvenate and feel good about my home. These steps, and a pack of Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, you’ll be ready for whatever life brings! Make your home more than clean.
