I struggle with finding balance in all things. I’m confident, but my skin shows I don’t always have it all together. I have breakouts from stress. I have large pores (thanks, Dad!) and dream of having beautiful, glowing skin. In fact, it is probably my biggest day-dream. Since reaching 40, I’ve been more committed to taking better care of my skin. Life is reflecting in my face and I’m okay with that, but I want my best face forward always.
I’m haunted by hormonal mild acne, which sometimes leaves a dark “scar”. I fake-and-baked through the late 80s, leading to sun damage. I’ve tried so many things and thought I’d just have to accept that it was all part of being me.
I have had facials…and loved every moment of them…and have dreamed of someday having a “peel”. The lady that gave me my first facial had beautiful, amazing skin and shared that she was addicted to them and they are her secret weapon. Then I priced them and wow!
So? What do I do when Dana Ramos invites me to do a peel at home, all by myself? I say, “Heck, yeah!” of course.
What I thought was rocket science turns out to be nothing more than learning about companies with integrity and products that are the best match and safe for my skin. I’m brave, but anything that might make me mutated or clown-like in public terrifies me.
Dana Ramos is the author of The Skin Regime. It was a pleasure to speak with her and when I received her book, I realized that her face is a testimony of all she was sharing with me. Take a look for yourself.
Once upon a time, Ramos’ skin was out of control. She had many of the problems I have, and some I never want to share with her! Now ,look at her…49 in the picture, with no makeup, aside from lipstick and mascara. Incredible!
The Skin Regime is an easy read, 120 pages, of the best ways to take care of your skin, which products really work and which ones are all bunk! As I read it I felt like Ramos was a dear friend and we were discussing our skin issues over coffee. She shares easy, do it yourself, skin care. It’s stuff our moms should have told us!
It has given me the confidence that I can take this on and do it myself.
So? This week I’m going to do it. I’m going to give myself a chemical peel at home! Here’s my starting canvas…
Stay tuned and see how my skin transforms.
