Mummenschanz, the internationally beloved and family-friendly show is back in New York and it’s better than ever! Founded in Switzerland some 38 years ago, Mummenschanz has toured the globe and had a three-year hit run on Broadway in the 1970s.
Don’t let the 70s dissuade you. Mummenschanz has also made appearances on Northern Exposure and The Muppets Show. Now, Mummenschanz takes two dozen micro-mini acts and combines the group’s most popular, classic characters, like the couple whose facial features are animated by rolls of toilet paper and a tall silver Slinky whose sole obsession is an enormous pink balloon!
Did I mention Mummenschanz is a mime? That’s right, not a single word is muttered, nor will the actor’s faces be seen as they are masked. It’s the beauty of Mummenschanz. With founding members, Floriana Frassetto and Bernie Schurch taking the lead followed by Raffaella Mattioli and Pietro Montandon puppeteering the audience will be in awe at the comic timing and the flexibility of this amazing production.
It’s been more than a decade since this universe of whimsy, wonder and ingenuity have delighted both young and old in America. It would be a shame to miss this opportunity!
Mummenschanz is performing at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts in New York now through Saturday, January 8, 2011. Showtimes and tickets can be found at the Skirball Center for Performing Arts website.
