Makenzie Caine, an up and coming singer/songwriter from rural Minnesota, has released her debut album titled “Take This Town”. Makenzie started her singing career in high school where she sang in various musicals, chorus groups and in the All-State Choir. She has also performed in an Off Broadway play, “The Rise of Dorothy Hale”, made an appearance in “All My Children” and can be seen in the upcoming film, “Solomon Grundy”.
Makenzie Caine has a beautiful voice that is both powerful and soothing. Her music is reminiscent of classic folk musicians such as Joni Mitchell, and similar to top pop artists like Sarah McLachlan, Natalie Merchant, and Norah Jones. After listening to this CD only a few times I find myself singing these songs when I wake-up in the mornings and off and on throughout the day. It is the perfect CD to keep in your car, when you just want to turn the radio up and escape from chaos of your day.
“Take This Town” features seven songs all of which were written by Makenzie Caine except for track 7, which is an up-beat rendition of Cat Steven’s “Moonshadow”. There is a song on this CD for everyone. The title track, “Take This Town” is about a girl from a small town who dreams of making it big. This song is inspirational, and it reminds us that anything is possible as long as you put your mind to it, remember where you came from and don’t forget the importance of your family. I love the beat in “Young Marine”, it has a classic country feel to it, and it is so much fun to sing along to. As a mother it was easy to relate to the song “Pretty In Red”. How often do women put their dreams on hold in order raise their children? Let this song be a reminder to us all to stay true to ourselves, and to continue wearing high heels and red lipstick during motherhood. “Sweet Baby” and “Butterfly” are instant classical children’s songs. With Makenzie’s beautiful voice and the song’s calming melody, it’s the perfect lullaby for all ages.
