Washing, shaving, picking out an outfit and splashing or spraying on some perfume (also own as cologne) is part of any smart guy’s morning ritual – setting him up for the day ahead, confident he looks and smells as good as possible.
These days more and more men are choosing to use perfume which has been specially designed for them, keen to enjoy another avenue of self-expression. Unfortunately, just like some women find, not all perfumes for men last very long, fading to nothing through the day – in some cases ridiculously quickly.
When you are planning to buy perfume as a gift for the man in your life you want a brand which is going to actually stick around – and here we share some tips on how to make sure that is exactly what kind of perfume you will find.
How to Make Sure You Get a Long Lasting Perfume for Your Man
Buy the real thing
Sure, fakes or even ‘good copies’ may be easier on your wallet, but there’s a reason for that – so they won’t pack the long-lasting punch you are looking for.
Buy a highly concentrated version
Although it’s common to use words like perfume as general nouns there are actually different levels of it, which are blended and sold at varying price points. Perhaps the most familiar is Eau de Toilette. The cheapest in a perfume range, but with anything from 5 to 15% fragrance it’s not going to be lingering for a long time. It’s only designed to give off any scent for an hour or two.
For the best results buy Parfum. This has the highest level of perfume concentrate in it, and one tiny drop can last for an entire day and night. It is, of course, the most expensive too. A more affordable option could be the Eau de Parfum version – which still lasts an impressive average of between five and eight hours.
User tips that will help him get the most out of his perfume
- Have him apply the perfume to his skin right after showering and moisturizing – as this helps the fragrance to settle in and linger for longer.
- Make sure the perfume is stored in a place which is dry and cool. He can still show off the fabulous gift you bought him – just not in the humid territory of a bathroom, or in direct sunlight anywhere else.
- As it is activated by body heat perfume lasts longer when sprayed directly onto the skin, especially at ‘pulse points’- which are found behind the knee, on the inside of your elbows and wrists, behind both ears and at the bottom of your throat area. [Spraying onto clothes only won’t have such a long-lasting effect.]
